It felt great to walk into one of Manchesters most iconic, grand hotels. It felt warm and welcoming on arrival. It is clear it has undergone a recent renovation whilst paying homage to its history. The executive room was comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The breakfast was good. I would definitely stay here again.

On arrival I was told that the spa and pool were out of service. This was the main reason I had booked this hotel over other options in the area. When I complained to management there were unapologetic and unhelpful.

Room had no heating/aircon, instead a small standalone electric radiator and standalone aircon unit were in the bedroom. The aircon unit was fitted to a permanently open window which led to a night of horrendous noise and taxi horns from the venue and drunken crowds opposite until 3am. When I complained in the morning, staff seemed to be aware but still happy to put us there knowing this would happen. Hotel did not offer part or full refund but did say they might give free upgrade next time - doubt we’ll be back! Very disappointed.

Sink blocked. Hook fell off bathroom wall. Massive construction work next door during the day. Swimming pool closed with no indication beforehand. housekeeping forgot to clean our room one night. No water probived in the room for one night. Waitress had very limited knowledge of coeliac allergy, pointed partner to the pastries. Overall, worst stay at the Midland for the last 5 years. Really poor

Staff absolutely wonderful. Beautiful bar area. The room which was described as executive twin was abit disappointing. More of a standard twin. It was on the top floor so had slanted roof, small windows and on the small side. But comfy beds and great shower.
