I booked through Expedia, then received an upsell email from Park Plaza Waterloo for an Executive Room upgrade—access to the Executive Floor and a better room. It turned out to be a huge mistake. We arrived (my pregnant partner needed to stay near St. Thomas Hospital) only to find out the swimming pool was closed (strike one). Next, we learned the entire Executive Floor was under renovation, so no lounge or perks (strike two). The “upgraded” room was actually smaller than our original booking and in terrible shape: crumbling headboard, dirty bathroom floor, dusty furniture, and someone’s hair in the minibar area. We requested a different room but ended up leaving altogether. Service felt cold and unengaging, which was especially disappointing given our situation. The manager promised a refund, yet the receptionist dismissed our concerns without making eye contact and so far I have not seen them reach out. Overall, a deeply disappointing experience.
