No Aircon.

We had booked a meal at Adam Reid's restaurant and thought we would extend our experience and stay at the hotel. The meal was excellent. The room looked good, however the Aircon did not work at all. The customer relations staff did not answer the phone when we tried to call. My husband went down to see them. They sent someone up with a not effective fan and said someone from maintenance would be up. Someone did come but just before we were going to get changed to go to the restaurant. He said he would be back after we left as it was going to require some work. Either he never came back or he couldn't mend it. When he got back to the room it was stifling.

We arrived at the Midland and were instantly impressed with how lovely the staff were, friendly attentive. The bar area was beautiful and the cocktails fantastic. We arrived at our room and at first impression the room was clean and tastefully decorated. However,what I thought was a pattern on the bathroom tiles actually turned out to be mold all over the grout in the shower!!! It was disgusting. As well as this the air dryer was absolutely terrible and I would not expect this to be a 4 star hotel with the state of the tiles in the shower and the haidryer.

The room was a good size and nicely furnished. I'm unsure why there was a winter duvet on the bed in June when the temperature low was 13 degrees. Unfortunately it made sleep very uncomfortable and far too warm even with the air conditioning working. The pillows were dreadful and really not what I'd expected of a 4 star hotel. The filling inside the pillows didn't even fill the case and they were hard and very uncomfortable. The combination of the excessively warm duvet and the hard pillows made for a very poor night's sleep. Breakfast was plentiful but self service which was disappointing. Powdered scrambled egg and all the other hot food selection were under warning lamps which did little to enhance the overall lack of quality of the food. Overall rather lacking considering the price point. I've stayed in other 4 star hotels which far exceed the experience I had at the Midland hotel. I wouldn't stay again and couldn't recommend it.

Stayed in an executive room which was spacious and nicely decorated. Location of hotel is excellent, everything's in easy walking distance and tram is just outside. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful and the bar is a great place to relax with a cocktail after a day sightseeing. Highly recommend

What I didn’t like was having my table cleared whilst I had returned to the buffet - as a solo traveler on this occasion I feel the staff were too quick and presumptive.
