I had an overall great experience staying at the King George Hotel. My friend and I booked a 7-night stay in mid-June for a leisure trip to San Francisco. We noticed that many guests appeared to be in town for business or conferences, and there were very few children around, which added to the calm and quiet atmosphere.
For the price we paid, the hotel offered good value. The room was smaller than expected based on the photos we saw on Expedia, but it was clean and comfortable enough for resting at night. Our favorite part of the hotel was the location — absolutely ideal for travelers without a car. It’s within walking distance to the Powell BART station, which made getting to and from SFO airport a breeze, and it's close to major tourist attractions and transit options.
There were a couple of areas that could use improvement. First, we were surprised by the additional $15/day mandatory facility fee, which wasn't clearly listed on Expedia. That said, the daily breakfast provided helped make up for it — simple, but appreciated.
The main downside of our stay was the elevator. The hotel only has one, and it’s very small. Unfortunately, it broke down twice during our 7-night stay. On one of those occasions, we were trapped inside while it shook violently for about 15 seconds — a genuinely frightening experience. We were on the top floor, and since the stairs are a narrow spiral type, this made things especially difficult when carrying luggage.
