Beautiful classic hotel from the early 1900s. The staff were very helpful with everything. My room was exceptionally clean, the bed and linens were so comfortable-I slept like a rock. Nice touches like a jar of candy in the room. Room appeared to be recently updated. Has a good little bar but not open very late (plenty of bars around). Sears Diner next had a great breakfast menu and for one late lunch, I ordered the lobster ravioli. There was nothing wrong with it-I just didn’t care for it and the waiter took it off my check! The Caesar salad was excellent! This location is excellent-cable car stop about 75 ft from the front door. Highend hotel chains on every corner but the Chancellor is family owned, which I can appreciate. Would definitely recommend and I will be back.

The place is pretty nice. It gives that old time feel. The rooms are clean and the staff are very helpful. The women who clean the rooms are especially nice. I would stay again. The only thing I thought was weird is it says Hotel and restaurant. There's no restaurant open but there is a nice one right next door.

Right on Union Square, Cable car runs by the front door should be enough but the Chancellor is so much more! All of the "little touches" in your immaculate room to the cookies and coffee in the lobby, friendly and helpful staff all for a very reasonable price make this a rare find!

I love the Chancellor Hotel. Little touches, like real glasses, instead of plastic; two for one drink at their bar with a very friendly bartender; coffee and tea downstairs in the morning; delicious cookies, apples and water in the afternoon. Very friendly and helpful staff. The location is perfect - half a block from Union Square with transportation anywhere within walking distance.

I knew about no air conditioner, but would have liked to have had air conditioning. A as Los would like to have the windows have safety screens so I could have left them open for air. Had two toddlers and couldn’t leave the windows open. Great otherwise though.
