Great location, walkable to piers 33 & 39 in 20mins. Cable car stop 1 block down (just below Union Sq) trains and buses 5 blocks down. Hotel staff very friendly, tea/coffee available all day in lobby area along with water. Fruit and cookies also available all day with popcorn in the evenings. Older hotel so rooms are not large, plenty big enough for us for 4 nights, you probably won’t be spending much time in your room anyway. We took our coffees (and cookies) over to Union Sq every day, great place to people watch.

It was okay, but I wouldnt stay again or recommend. Staff team could do some work on customer service. We werent asked how our stay was at checkout. When checking in, I started to talk about how we booked this trip in 2020, but it was cancelled for obvious reasons and how long we have been waiting to visit San Francisco. Unfortunately there was no curiosity at all from the staff, and they clearly didnt want to have a conversation. No housekeeping during the stay either. There were lots of notices in the room re reducing waste and reusing towels and linens and how to communicate needing fresh ones, however it was clear no staff entered the room anyway. The rooms are on the smaller side. However, there was free coffee and cookies, and on one day popcorn. The location was close to Union square, so central enough to get anywhere you need. Powell street also has the classic cable cars passing. The hotel has some classic Art Deco/ 1920s features.

Great location for Union Square. Hotel was clean and staff were friendly and efficient. Only negative was the bed was so soft that we rolled together and didn’t sleep well and I did mention to front desk. Would stay again if could get firmer mattress.
