The Chancellor is a lovely hotel located in Union Square. The rooms were small, but much larger than I expected. They are immaculately clean. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient for finding restaurants, shopping and touring SF. It’s a historic hotel, well cared for. The Chancellor’s standards for guest services, cleanliness and affordability are exceed ed my expectations.
Even though I live in the East Bay, if I’m attending an event that will end late, I prefer to stay overnight in S.F. if a good hotel rate can be found. The first place I check is the Chancellor. I usually get a decent rate. It is centrally located near Union Square. It is still owned by the same family that built it after the 1906 earthquake. It has a home & family feeling - old San Francisco. It’s a great place.
Staff is very friendly, hotel is clean, rooms are updated nicely, union square is a nice place, the hills are insane, if you have a full size truck, parking is nearly impossible!!!
The room was clean. Our room had a door connecting it to another room. The noise from the other room could be heard through this door until late in the evening. The next morning the cleaning lady started vacuuming the room next door too early, which was very noisy and woke us up. The front door was at an odd angle, which made the entrances to the room and the bathroom too close together, creating a cramped space.
What a wonderful gem in the heart of San Francisco! The hotel has been refreshed and it was charming. The staff is fantastic and the amenities are far better than expected. Highly recommend a soak in the tub and don't forget to take home your rubber duck.
Had a beautiful one night stay at the chancellor hotel. It was for my anniversary, and they gave us a complimentary bottle of Cava and a card which was so sweet and unexpected. The room itself had lots of charm even though small, but expected in the city. Great proximity to union square, the street cars, and Bart. We had a fantastic view on the 11th floor.
Fabulous location & very friendly staff. The property is old (by US standards) but I had plenty of room & closet space for one person. I liked the bathtub & the bed was very comfortable. Don’t miss Alicia who runs the bar - she is a gem & has lots of local knowledge.
“I had a wonderful stay at the Chancellor! From the moment I arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. My room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything I needed. The amenities, especially [mention a highlight like the pool, breakfast, or gym], made my stay even more enjoyable. The location was perfect, and I appreciated the extra effort the team put into ensuring a great experience. I’ll definitely be returning and highly recommend the Chancellor to anyone visiting San Francisco!”
Amazing property right in the middle of downtown, absolutely loved it. Close to all the shopping, cable cars, subway, wharf, etc. The rooms were nice, but it is an old hotel! Beds were very comfortable, and I did not hear any street noise like other people. It all depends on which side of the hotel you’re staying on. The front desk staff were the best and most helpful staff I’ve ever seen! Highly recommend this property
