The general manager Christy Zheng was amazing ! Her staff are super friendly and really assist in helping guests feel comfortable and welcomed.
All the staff were very knowledgable about the tourism industry in Victoria.
I would stay here again.
I felt very badly for the friendly staff at this hotel: the building, furnishings and decorations are extremely run down. Howard Johnson is not doing proper oversight of the OWNER of this property.

Enjoyed the swimming pool but a chair broke when I sat on it, landed hard on floor in ladies room.
Lots of vending machines.
Generally good. The bed was comfortable and the wifi worked well. Housekeeping each day forgot to replace the coffee cups and coffee and tea. There is nowhere to plug in electronic devices as all of the outlets were in use. I would recommend attaching a power bar to the computer desk or putting in desk lamps that have power outlets in their base as well as usb ports. This may sound like a lot of complaining, but it is not really. We enjoyed out stay and would recommend this hotel.
The staff is super friendly qnd helpful, they give you complementary muffins, coffee and yogurt every morning, parking is free and the location is good
Howard Johnson had our reservation but did not have a room. They sent us to another hotel and the room
type was not the same we booked and paid for through Hotels.com. The next hotel attempted to charge extra fees as we did not book with them they were only helping out the Howard Johnson. Speaking with Hotels.com was a waste of time. The extra charge was processed by Howard Johnson for the hotel they sent us to. Eventually Howard Johnson refunded the additional charge by the second hotel. Would not recommend a stay at this Howard Johnson, nor recommend using hotels.com to book rooms.
The room was clean, the staff were helpful and friendly. The facilities look like they are short on funds. The washrooms on the main floor are mostly out of service. The breakfast mentioned in their listing on Expedia turned out to be a muffin and a yogurt cup in a brown bag with coffee and tea in the lobby. I was expecting something more like waffles or pancakes, bagels, toast, cold cereal, oatmeal, and a place to sit and eat. The gym consists of some broken treadmills and a Tony Little Gazelle.
The facility was cheap and clean but don't count on the breakfast if you have a hungry family and maybe go for a walk in beautiful Victoria rather than use the gym.

Property is old and in need of a refresh. The cost per night reflects this. The room rate here is about 1/2 to 1/3 that of other properties in the vicinity. The bed was comfortable and the room very clean.
When we arrived back at our room, it was already occupied!! Thankfully those people were not there. Their belongings were. But this could have been much more awkward if they had been. Problem was fixed but still not a great surprise.
Called to see if the pool would be open during our stay and was told it would be. When we got there it was closed for "cleaning".
This was the only reason we chose this hotel...the indoor pool.
Around 9pm the people next door were slamming doors then started yelling at each other so loud we could hear every word (including our son). My wife and I were very worried someone was going to be hurt and felt unsafe. Every curse word you can imagine came out of their mouths. This went on for over 10 minutes. Called the front desk and let them know what was going on as soon as it started. I expected someone to come up immediately. I called back 3 minutes later and the front desk person said he would be coming up "after he finished with a guest". I told him he needed to come now and the police would be a good idea as well. Eventually the guy came up. We could hear the people in the other room trying to smooth talk the guy but at least he handled it well I believe. Next thing we knew the police were there and it took about 20 minutes to get the people out of the room. The whole episode was about 35-40 minutes. Now I get it that this type of thing could happen at any hotel (high end or low end) but I truly believe this was a couple of lower class people. So this particular event in this particular hotel was because this was a hotel they could afford and they would not have been in a higher end hotel.
Last time we stay at a lower end hotel just because they have a pool.
