Amazingly convenient in the heart of downtown. 6 min walk to the wharf, lots of eateries and shopping. Friendly reception, comfy bed, clean. A very pleasant stay. Thing to note is that this is a historic hotel and rooms may be smaller than you might expect. If you want space to sprawl out, you might want to check their suites rooms.

The hotel is in a great location. However, it is in very bad condition. The carpet is very old and smelly, the beds mattresses were worn out. It was not sanitary in my opinion. We left as soon as we arrived and saw the conditions of the room and common areas. We had to find another hotel to stay for the 3 nights we had booked at the Monterey. One of the worst experiences I had in recent years.

Great location, excellent value

I stayed for 6 nights and this spot met all my needs. Not a ton of amenities (but they did have a hot tub!) but it's so walkable right downtown on Alvarado street. Weekend nights were noisy, but overall it's a good value for the price and location. Street parking or public garage parking was easy - no need to pay for valet.

Great location and vibe

This is a no-frills yet charming place to stay at a great price, in a PERFECT location. Easy walk tot he Warf or the water, and right in the middle of the downtown stuff. Parking garage is also super close.

Hidden gem

A little get away trip off the cuff, landed us in this quaint & beautifully furnished hotel. The staff was very helpful & valet parking is needed. There is a handicap lift avaiable inside the hotel where there are a few stairs. Very Walkable neighborhood & on Tuesday evenings, there's a wonderful farmers market right outside the door! Loved it. Great little street that offers food & convenience options. The hotel only serves coffee, tea & hot chocolate. A great surprise was a private jacuzzi you can sign up for by the hour. It's first come first serve & there are cameras to prevent couples from using it for other purposes. Transportation on a free shuttle that takes you to the cannery..just a great place to stay!

Awful, small and extremely loud.

Our room had no air conditioning and as a result needed a window open to provide some cooling. With the cars and motorcycles revving their motors all night this was terrible experience. We checked out the next morning and moved to another hotel. We requested a refund but were told no. The room was very small, less than 200 sq ft. Stay somewhere else, not relaxing and no sleep. Room had cracked bathroom counter and buckled carpet. Not even any decor.

Worse hotel in Monterey

the room was very small, hard to move around. No A/C and no screen on windows to open windows. mold on baseboards, rust on bathroom fixtures. They wouldn't work with us at all since we booked through hotels.com. They brought a fan to a room that you could barely move around in. I sat on the toilet and could do my hair since the sink was that close (not sure legal by building codes). When we voices our concerned they asked if we wanted to leave. At night there was this much space on both sides of the door (in picture). It was like they discriminated against us because we booked through Hotels.com. I love Monterey and have a long family history there so this is very disappointing,
