A fire alarm went off Saturday morning at 6 am. It caused me dramatic distress having been woken from a deep sleep. Then I discover it is only going off in my room where my wife and I were sleeping. Having traveled from Tehachapi we were hoping for a relaxing start to the day not an air raid siren and flashing lights that went off for 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile the front desk wouldn’t answer the phone forcing me to get dressed and walk down to the front desk to get them to turn off the alarm. Staff at the hotel were pleasant, but I can’t say I will ever seek out a high-end Marriott moving forward. Totally ruined our stay.

Basic Hotel that has been nicely updated. Bedroom had a moldy damp smell. We couldn’t open the window to air it. They allow dogs too so I had awful allergies. No coffee machine or water in room. No mini bar, just a fridge. We were there for Christmas week and no Christmas cookies, nothing. When we stay in Other hotels they make Christmas feel magical. Pool was too cold to swim in. Brown water pooling around pool and patio areas from drains. Back gate didn’t open. They did fix that. Just felt v basic and wasn’t cheap. Good location. We had a nice view but wouldnt stay here again. Breakfast was just ok. Oatmeal cooked in water in microwave with a few berries and brown sugar. Fry was just ok. Restaurant is nicely decorated. Was sorry I didn’t book a leading hotel of world hotel. They are another level to Marriott for service and quality. Loved Santa Monica.

Nice moderately-priced hotel one block from the beach. Very good dining - with the exception of the disgusting customers who sneeze and cough without covering their mouth, and the nose pickers!!! Gross!! (Not the hotels fault that Americans are so rude and inconsiderate of others). The hotel is fairly clean for a high-traffic hotel. The staff are great!! - very friendly and helpful. My biggest complaint is that for a day and a night, there was only barely warm water for an evening, and on the day we departed, NO HOT WATER!!! (Nothing like a cold morning shower to end one's holiday...). To their credit, the hotel did waive my valet parking charge. But I would have gladly paid the $70 valet parking fee if it meant we would have had hot water. Frankly, there's no excuse for the apparent issues they have with their hot water supply. In conclusion, I doubt that I will ever stay there again... And my daughter lives in the area, and her Law office is just 2 blocks from the hotel, so I was looking for a hotel to stay in when I come visit her in LA. This hotel will not be it!! So do yourself a favor, and pay the additional few hundred dollars per night to stay in a "better" hotel. But again, I want to emphasize, that the hotel is recently refurbished in mid-century modern decor, fairly clean, and the staff were wonderful (9 out of 10) and the food was easily an 8 out of 10.
