Horrible Experience – Deceptive and Negligent Management If I could give zero stars, I would. My stay at Sonesta Simply Suites Irvine (Irvine, CA) was an absolute nightmare due to gross negligence, deception, and complete disregard for guests’ comfort. On March 15-16, 2025, I stayed with my family. Despite being assured a peaceful stay until our noon checkout, we were abruptly awakened at around 8 AM by extremely loud drilling, hammering, machinery, and furniture dragging from the room above us. It was clearly heavy-duty construction, not normal guest activity. I called the front desk multiple times, but no one answered. When I walked down in person, the staff blatantly lied, claiming it was just a guest upstairs and that they would call upstairs. Once got back to the room the noise persisted. I again call the front desk and Only after repeated questioning did they finally admit they were renovating a bathroom and replacing a bathtub directly above our room—while we were still checked in! This was completely unacceptable and reckless. They could have scheduled construction after checkout hours, but instead, they knowingly placed us under an active work zone, ignored complaints, and lied about the situation. Their actions caused severe sleep deprivation, mental distress, and ruined our stay. I am now pursuing legal action for negligence, breach of contract, fraudulent misrepresentation, & emotional distress. No guest should ever experience this kind of dishonesty

First night we stayed the bed was literally as hard as a slab of cement so we told them the next morning and was comped a better room on the top floor with a better bed so that I appreciate. We tried to use the jacuzzi and it was cold very dirty looking and not working properly so that was a bummer the pool needs a remodel it’s very outdated and kind of creepy in there. Otherwise the parking was very easy and free and the location is great with close dining places and not far from the beach only a 15 minute drive.

What i liked The parking was nice and simple. Check in was easy. Staff was friendly. What i didnt like Well first right when i walked in to the restroom noticable stains on the mirror and floor. There were hairs on the bed. Not many but noticeable as well. Could have just been a bad day but was disappointed.

First, the good. CC, morning counter staff was helpful, as well as the brunch wait staff. Night staff, ugh, what a pain to deal with. Unresponsive and not helpful to simple requests. This hotel is misleading, there is not microwave or fridge included with your room unless you pay the extra fees, that’s right, it says your room comes with these two “amenities” but they don’t. Breakfast, also not included in your stay, at all! It is a separate charge. The website says breakfast is included (multiple third party sites and the hotel site). Breakfast is sub-par, grainy and gritty pancakes, undercooked sausage, wet potatoes, it goes on. The rooms are quite uncomfortable, especially the old, stained, spring mattresses. The bathrooms are dilapidated, in need of serious care. We changes rooms since the first had no fridge (yes, we paid the extra money), the second room was worse than the first room. Bathroom doors did not close all the way, the tub was clogged so I pulled everything out of the drain myself. Tons of debris and hair. So much water damage in my room, the ceiling was crumbling with terrible patch work done, the floor was warped from water damage with no attempt to repair. The pool, wow. The indoor pool, which should be tempered, was not. So it’s close to 52 degrees. Hot tub, shoots upward and out of the tub. The first time we started the jets, they shot out a ton of film and what looked like old skin debris. There was never any towels in the pool area, although we asked.

The common areas look nice, but that is where it ends. The elevator makes noises when going up and down, the room they gave us had a leaking toilet, so water would accumulate on the bathroom floor --gross and unsanitary! The bed and pillows were uncomfortable. The blinds on the windows do not shut out all the light, the sun peaked through in the early AM and woke me. The walls are not sound proof---neighbors woke me up when they had their TV on and were talking. Furniture and fixtures had damage and wear to them. The place needs a major overhaul, which the owners don't seem able to do---might as well demo the entire building and start over.

The staff was friendly and understanding but the facilities leave something to be desired. Though it appears to be new on the outside, once in the hallways and rooms one can see paint chipping, furniture and walls warping, and water damage throughout. Clearly this hotel got a facelift with some paint, but the deeper maintenance issues have not been dealt with properly. It's okay for the price but it would be much better if they had the proper adjustments made and even more comfortable beds (the mattresses were quite hard and inflexible).

The carpet in the room was stained and needed to be replaced. I was grossed out walking in the room and wore socks the whole time. The grout in the shower showed slight mildew.
