The hotel is lovely but many of the original features were obscured by modernist decor. Also given the cost of the accommodation the prices for minibar and other features were very high and not conducive to making one feel at home.

The location was perfect. The bar resturant had wonderful food. THe decorum was very nice. THe rooms were very comfortable and well decorated and comfortable. HTe best part was the the fantastic staff. I will be recommending this as the place to stay in Dunedin

I really liked the hotel but we always have room to complain don’t we? Two complaints and neither fixable: first one, we had 3 very tiny windows with opaque glass. The windows were up high and we sort of felt imprisoned. Luckily we don’t spend too much time in our room. Secondly, and this ‘complaint’ refers to many hotel chains who have refurbished the insides: showers that only have partial glass. Inevitably water sprays out even when not putting the pressure on high and the floor and even towels get sprayed….annoying. But would I stay at this Fable Hotel again, yes. It was very nicely updated in so many ways while maintaining character. And the staff were warm, welcoming and professional

No parking. I was shocked to check in and find out that unless you reserved a parking space in advance, you had to find your own street parking - that lasts 1-4 hours. I then asked about times for supper in the restaurant and was told unless you make a reservation, you were unlikely to get in. I honestly just wanted to cancel and go somewhere else at this point. I had to walk 4 blocks to constantly renew my parking, was forced to order room service if i wanted to eat at the hotel. There's no point in staying at a 5 star hotel if you have better service at a 2 star property.

Comfortable Stay

This is an historic hotel full of charm.As a solo traveler, I was given a very small room but the bed was so comfortable. I was put on the sixth floor with no elevator access but I managed. The hotel restaurant was very good. There were a couple of hiccups in the staff service but I coped.

Beautiful classic hotel. Our room was on the very top floor and was tiny. The furnishings were a bit too big for the small space and made for awkward maneuvering. The wardrobe could not be opened (or effectively utilized) as the doors swung into the bed when opened, and the coffee station was positioned in front of the only window making it tough to enjoy the view. Nice room, spoiled a bit by oversized furniture.
