We stayed here for a night on our way to the beach with our two kids. The town is amazing, the restaurants are all good, and the property here is beautiful. However, we booked a river view balcony room and the whole area is advertised as smoke free even on the property, but when we walked into our room the old cigarette smoke smell was overwhelming and our river view was blocked by overgrown trees. It was very disappointing to say the least. We were looking forward to our balcony…and my daughter has severe allergies. The overwhelming musty smoke smell made it very difficult for her to breathe in the room.

When we arrived both garbage cans in the room were overflowing. The receptionist was rude. The advertised “private beach” seemed more like undeveloped marshland to me. Housekeeping staff seemed friendly just not the receptionist. She had an attitude when we called and asked for directions due to a road closure. She was insistent that other guests were able to get to the hotel despite the road closure which we didn’t dispute we merely asked for directions.

The room was clean, kitchenette was good but only stocked with basics, 2 mugs, I frying pan and 2 pots etc. Would be better to have a couch and a bed but that was my fault for not looking into things further. Only 3 umberellas in the pool area

Mixed feelings

The “river view” we paid for was a bush with a sliver of the river able to be seen if you contorted just right. Ask for a top floor if you actually want to see the water…. It’s why we paid more to stay here instead of somewhere else with all the same amenities. Front desk was super nice and helpful. Cleaning service was efficient and quick to offer help as well. No bit of floor space to actually put your suitcases though so it all felt clustered and tight. I blame it on all the unnecessarily big furniture pieces. Either have a desk or a table….. not both. Beds were comfortable. The door did not have a dead bolt. You could lock the card reader. A woman traveling alone or with her children (which I do regularly) would not feel comfortable with that. I had my giant of a husband with us this time and we all still felt uneasy. What is unfortunate is that we travel back this way next year and we’re hoping to stay at this spot again but the negatives far outweighed the positives, which is crazy because the positives were sooooo good!

Nice pool and unique beach for a Southport property. Worked well with me thru Expedia to change my reservation last minute. Appreciate that very much. Only negative to me was the tv. It’s very small and an older model…was unable to stream anything whatsoever. You charge over $200 a night…you should upgrade your tv’s. But overall it was a good stay and I highly recommend. We will be back.

Great hotel for the price

This is really nice hotel with location right on the river and a pool next to the river. We had late check in and the instructions that were emailed were clear and accurate. The room was super clean and spacious with a kitchen area, desk and seating area. Although we didn’t have our room made up the first day, housekeeping stopped to see if we needed anything. The bed was very comfortable. The location was nice in a residential area and we were able to walk to the Southport pier and restaurants only having to walk on the main road for a little bit. Typically you’d drive though due to the heat but it was nice for morning exercise. Staff was friendly. We really loved it for the price!
