Best Hostel Near Chinatown

I stayed in five hostels over the course of 11 days in Singapore and Royal Hostel was by far the best! Some reviews complained that they shut off the air con from 10-4, but they also opened up the room's windows and let the place air out while the (daily) housekeeping was done. This means it was the least smelly! No moist, sweaty clothing or towel funk like I had experienced in the other hostels. Privacy curtains, a plus. Cold filtered water dispenser and the shared bathroom is in stumbling distance from the door room(s). The staff was cheerful and helpful. There was enough room in the provided locker for my huge knapsack. Also, it is located on Smith St., which is also called "food street", which is a little wacky at night, but the room was surprising quiet! It's close to the MRT (two stops away from Harbour Front and Sentosa) and the famous Maxwell Hawker Centre. Breakfast coupons got me food or beverage at "Nanyang Old Coffee", which I already had been visiting for their delicious iced blended coffees. I extended my initial 2 day stay to 4.

Pleasant stay!

Generally clean and orderly. The staff were accommodating and helpful, they didn't mind us leaving our bags at the designated area after we checked out. The best part was it was right at the Chinatown food street and so close to the MRT station. It was very easy to move around.

Good Hostel at the center of China town

Good Hostel at the center of China town, clean and quite enough. Recommend it for 2-4 days of staying, lots of delicious food out side, on the China street)

Typical Hostel in a great location

This is a great value if you are needing a bed to sleep. It is a standard hostel like you could find anywhere in the world. For my 12 hour layover it wasn't as great because the free breakfast was not available until 8-9am, as you get coupons for local food stalls and I needed to leave by 7am.

superb hostel for the price

good wifi and clean rooms and showers.cant beat the location, amazing food right outside the front door. The breakfast coupon was also a nice touch. Only thing is the office hours could be better.

Clean, convenient and comfortable Stay

Typically clean and comfortable bedding, yet convenient neighborhood, close to many food courts. One thing I would suggest is to get reception open earlier (from 7am - 11pm) for early or late arrivals (11am-7pm currently)

Suggestion

Me and my wife stayed just one night. Neighborhood little noisy. We were in mix dorm but most of the inmates were men felt little uncomfortable. I suggest keep separate dorm form male and female inmates or keep only couples.

A Nice Escape Into the Heart of Singapore

Royal Hostel is a comfortable and well situated shared dorm in the heart of the Chinatown district. A few minutes away from the Chinatown MRT and hawker food centres within the vicinity. Safety and feedback from other visitors were key in my selection process. I am glad that I found both in the Royal Hostel. As I was out most of the day (from 7am, returning past 9pm), I felt that my things are safe there.
