The beach is, of course, the star attraction here. With coconut trees lining the shore and the clear Coral Sea a calm stretch of blue waters, it’s all too easy to wittle away the days basking in the sun. And with the Great Barrier Reef at the edge of the island, it’s a fab spot for snorkelling and diving too! The coral and marine life is fascinating, from the little clown fish to turtles and gigantic whales. You can also explore this magical underwater world on a Glass Bottom Boat tour.
Every inch of Fitzroy Island is actually a national park! So you can bet that there are some gorgeous, natural scenescapes to explore away from the water’s edge. Tackle the bush walking tracks across the island – there are heaps to choose from! Try the super lovely lighthouse walk and summit walk, and then take the tracks to Secret Garden and Nudey Beach! Wind through rainforests and valleys, up peaks, alongside springs and beaches, and past amazing wildlife all around you. If you like turtles, be sure to take a tour of the Fitzroy Island campus of the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre.
