My wife and I don’t have children or much family nearby, so we’ve created our own Christmas tradition. We first stayed at Woodward’s White Mountain Resort in 2022 and had a great experience: comfortable room, dog-friendly options, and a cozy attached restaurant with good food.
In 2023 we discovered that the restaurant was closed, which was disappointing but manageable. In 2024, we learned the restaurant had been renovated and would be open on Christmas Eve, so we returned. That stay was excellent and reinforced this becoming our annual holiday tradition.
This year, however, we found out on the day we were supposed to drive up that the restaurant would be closed again. Finding food on Christmas Eve in the White Mountains is extremely difficult, and the attached restaurant has always been a major reason we chose this resort. I contacted the resort to request a refund and was told the restaurant is a separate business. While technically true, it is physically attached, marketed together, and directly impacts the guest experience. Clear communication about holiday hours is essential. Unfortunately, this experience was very disappointing and likely ended what was becoming a meaningful tradition. A simple refund would have resolved the issue and we would have gladly returned in the future (just not during Christmas), but the decision not to do so ultimately cost them a repeat customer over a relatively small amount.
