great location, fairly rundown

the location was mostly awesome. so close to so many things. To be fair, the hotel has no control over the homeless population, but there is a bunch of homeless people literally camped outside the hotel doors. The homeless generally don't bother you, but it's a little sketchy. The room was ok sized with a timy bathroom as advertised. The thing is, this looks like it was once a really nice hotel but has gotten run-down. It needs a really good clean, and some renovations. The elevator was nice, but had several broken buttons for floors. The whole thing covered in scotch tape, and 2 areas of grafiti inside the elevator. a few outlets didn't work, but sinve there were so many available, we were fine. the beside lamps didn't work, and the wiring showed which could be a fire risk.. I let the staff know, and they replaced them while we were out same day. So, that was good. They have free luggage storage which I called about ahead. only problem is, we used it, and it's in a room that has a lock, in a metal cage that has a lock, but the staff keave both the cage & the room unlocked & tell you to take your valuables with you. The room is around a blind corner from the staff out of view. so... what, you walk around town with your laptops & other stuff & hope for the best? we were touristing, and walked several miles that day after checkout, before our flight. would have been good to know ahead that they kind of have luggage storage.

Pros: convenient walking location from Southern Cross Station, price, coffee machine in foyer (although the milk function stopped working during my stay and had not been fixed). Cons: room cleanliness, and housekeeping didn't leave toilet paper.

The property is pretty dated, but by the same time pretty well maintained. You wont mistake it for a modern facility but its not falling down around you. Its also basic. No pool or spa or restaurant, but if thats what you need then you have to pay more than the budget price YEHS charges. Its basic, but you get what you pay for. Great shower, nice big room (going by the one I was in anyway). Staff were friendly but not intrusive. Location is absolutely perfect. Great option when all you need is a quiet place to rest your head at night.

Convenient location, but grout in tiled bath/shower was mouldy. One lift had problems resulting in my sister getting stuck in it for a while. The staff knew it had problems but there was no warning notice on it. The bedside lights didn't work.
