This Hotel was amazing 50 years ago, but now its old and crumbling and falling apart. Its lost its charm of years gone by, with old furniture, crumbling walls, and an average breakfast. This did not make up for a large room.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The hotel is in a need for renovation. The bathrooms are way too old. We visited the hotel also about 7 years ago and it’s aging quickly. It’s conveniently located within a walking distance to the grounds of Australian Open tennis tournament (the reason for our staying there), but for the next visit to Melbourne we will select a different hotel.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
A beautiful old property that is being allowed to fall apart. Furniture and rugs are stained and worn. The vanity light in our bathroom didn’t work, we reported this at the front desk. No reaction. The hotel advertised dinner specials in one of their restaurants, the waiter knew nothing about it. Great location, just don’t promote this as the grand hotel it used to be.
Hotel has lovely old charm but with updated bathrooms. Good location for Paris end shopping and theatres. We were updated to a super suite which was as big a a small house! Would recommend if you like heritage feel.
In general the stay was okay, however there was limited impact made by the 'cooling' and the windows wouldn't open. Staff wete friendly and the hotel is aesthetically pleasing, but not the best value for money. We wouldn't stay again.
A fantastic property with the grace and elegance one would expect in a heritage hotel. However, it could spruce up its act in regards to the wifi which was terrible and not throw up surprises like a 70 dollar bill for using the valet service on two occassions.
It's a fine hotel, with a character and a history than any updating would only tarnish. The Cricketers' Bar would be one of the best places in the world to have a drink if its stereo broke.
This is a very well-known hotel in Melbourne and when I arrived, it was disappointing. The room smelt very old and stale. There was coal or charcoal near the fire pit which was on our carpet and I stepped on a chunk. I personally love the decor of the Victorian era however The furniture inside my Victorian suite was ripped and old. I was expecting nice Chesterfield or at least nice furniture inside .the existing furniture was not well-maintained. One of our chairs were severely ripped through the leather which was unacceptable. The staff were very friendly and had great service but when I checked out they overcharged me and when I tried to explain to them it’s like they didn’t read the email and didn’t understand what I was trying to say.
There was a foreign Hair stuck in the bathtub screen door , (it was a long curly hair and I have dead straight Hair ) so you can tell the house cleaning don’t do a really good job.
I probably wouldn’t stay here again as there are more affordable cleaner and modern hotels in the city.
In the real heart of the city, is a retreat in time, to when genuine care and attention to a traveler still exists. From the arrival, immediate access to the theatre district, and a breakfast to actually enjoy, it is truly sad to leave.
