Beautiful old hotel with lovely Swiss charm. The breakfast is phenomenal! Delicious fresh breads and real, fresh butter. The beds are soft and comfortable with fluffy down comforters. The views from the terrace were breathtaking. The staff was friendly and helpful. Catching the bus to the train station was quick and easy! I would love to stay here again!
We truly enjoyed our time at the Paxmontana Hotel. The views were some of the best I have ever experienced in my life. Our 4 night stay was very comfortable. The staff are all helpful and welcoming. The hotel is located among beautiful mountains that allowed for a peaceful stay. A bus stop is nearby which makes transportation easy. We'd happily stay here again in the future.
Where do I begin? Do not book this hotel thinking that it has of the modern conveniences you'd expect from a hotel at this rate. We got there at 8:30 pm only to find that the only restaurant was booked solid with a convention party.. Desk attendant told us of another restaurant nearby that we could visit which we did only to find it was also closed.. We were then told the bar area could have some food prepared which came as a huge surprise to the bartender.. Too his credit he helped us out and made a call.. As for the room? Stark, uncomfortable, no storage space, no sitting area, no dresser, tiny bathroom. If you don't mind lack of comfort and poor service, then this is your place.. If those things mean anything to you, it is best to stay at another place...
Amazing and restful and unmatched beauty. Do yourself a favor and stay here!

We arrived and were sent to Jungenstil, which is their small hotel down the road with NO TV, NO WiFi, Restaurant is only opened for a couple hours with a limited menu. The picture that is shown on the web-site is not where you stay! Had a personal issue and the front desk staff was very insensitive! Overall, too expensive for what you get.
Beautiful area and the main hotel is wonderful. We stayed in the detached guesthouse, which had substantially fewer amenities. Breakfast was good, but get there early. They run out of some foods and do not always restock. Elevator in the guesthouse only goes to the 2nd of 3 floors so you may need to climb some stairs. Restrooms are small, but functional. If your window is open, plan on getting up at 6am because the bell on the adjacent chapel will ring loudly in the morning. Didn't bother me, but others might want to be aware.
Location is magnificent though!

The hotel is located in a beautiful place. However, it was very expensive. We got a room in the "annex building", and not in the main building, but the price was still the same as what we paid in a luxury hotel. The room was very simple. Basically, just beds and a bathroom. No TV, phone, or even an alarm clock (although this may not be necessary, since the annex building is adjacent to a church and the bells rings very early in the morning...) Breakfast was fine, but not great. So overall, I don't think it was worth the amount that we paid.
Hotel has an amazing view but is a ways away from everything. We really enjoyed it just because of the view and all the hiking trails surrounding the hotel and the little village.
Excellent. Very historical hotel with nice rooms in a chalet located with close proximity to the hotel. Good morning breakfast and great value for the price.
We thought we were going to stay in the building that was pictured on the website. Unfortunately, we were put in a nearby building in a tiny room. The bathroom was so small you could barely turn around. Had to dry off from the shower outside the bath. There was no where to put the luggage as there was just enough room to walk around the bed. I perched my suitcase on the bedside table. I guess we didn't read the fine print. The location was beautiful though as it is high on a hill. It's located at the site of the home of Brother Klaus, a Swiss saint from the 1400's. there's a nice hike down to a river, and at least three churches. It is a religious retreat as well. Many tour busses unload tourists who stay at the main building for one night then move on.
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. Always smiling and full of cheer. The location is absolutely beautiful, and to go along with it, this hotel is very clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. The food in the restaurant is fantastic. We had a great time at the Paxmontana!
This is a fantastic hotel! My room was in the guest house just down the road, but the scenery and location is wonderful. It's not the easiest to get to, but if you are booking this hotel, that is probably what you are looking for. The staff was great and very helpful and the breakfast in the morning was wonderful.

Amazing view
The views from the hotel are breathtaking; however, i would not recommend staying in the guest house which is a separate building ( 5 min walk from reception and restaurant). The main issue i had was the super squeaky beds. It was also rather warm in the room and the blanket was thick.
did not stay at the Art Deco main building, but at a chalet-type structure next to the village's church. The room was tiny and the bathroom even more so, but it contained everything which one needs and the surroundings more than made up for this negligible inconvenience. The view into the valley is breathtaking and about 100 ft away there is a rabbit/chicken enclosure. We got the full Swiss rural experience, with the church bell ringing every 15 min, and the rooster waking us at 4:30 am. We loved it! The breakfast is at the main house and is abundant and served in impressively decorated rooms. A definite highlight of our European vacation!
This is a lovely, well maintained and clean guest house, in a very scenic area. The staff are very friendly and the included breakfast was excellent, however we were disappointed that there was no wifi in the rooms, only in the restaurant.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good, but of course being Switzerland, also very expensive.
The guesthouse is in a bit of an out of the way spot, and we only stayed on our way to another destination, but it seemed as though a few days in this area would be worthwhile.
The view, the cool mountain air, the people, the service, the sound of running water from the rushing stream, cow bells in the distance, church bells, the peace, one could do no better any where in the world.
We have been so many places and this village and hotel are top drawer. I can not wait to go back and take the entire family.
I would like to thank hotels.com for telling us about it and thank the wonderful staff at the Paxmontana.
We loved this hotel so much we stayed an extra night. The view of the mountains was beautiful, our room in the chalet was comfortable. No internet or television in the chalet, as the owners wish to retain the unspoiled country atmosphere. We dined in the restaurant both evenings. The food was good and the service excellent. A good breakfast with plenty of choice. We would stay again.
The hotel was very friendly and the food was mostly real and very tasty. I guess Switzerland must be expensive - our two rooms (in August) were more expensive than we paid in the Austrian Tyrol or in France and were really tiny - too small for a three day stay. So my star rating is lower than it would have been.
The location is stunning and the hotel compliments this experience. It is all that you expect Switzerland to be. clouds floating by at eye level, the Swiis houses and quaint hamlet, very large mountains...and the food was excellent in the restaurant as well.
We used it as a stop over on the way to Italy by car and the location was ideally placed for such a stop.
The only drawback being a British traveller is the unfavourable exchange rate which makes it very expensive.
Wonderful location with beautiful views.
Meals were ok, but be careful of the chicken cooked on a stone platter, Mine was cooked Rare, with red meat this would be acceptable so had to send it back in til it came back medium and I had to let it cook itself on the stone until well done.
Otherwise friendly staff.
My night was disturbed by elephants moving furniture in the rooms next to mine and upstairs. Perhaps this was not made any easier by the wooden construction of this beautiful chalet type hotel.
We experienced some difficulty finding the hotel, but it was well worth the effort. The staff were welcoming and extremely helpful and the surrounding area is just beautiful. We stayed in the annex chalet and our room was rather small, but the amazing view of the mountains from our window more than made up for any inconvenience.
