The 'comfort room', a sad reflection of the 1980s, had wooden framed, thin double glazed paneled windows. One of the security handles to lock a window was missing and they steamed up with condensation every morning. The only way to control room temperature was to open a window out into the grounds (no AC). There was ONE biscuit in the tea tray upon arrival. It looked like it had been there for a long time. The decor was tired and reminded me of the vintage TV programme, 'Crossroads Motel'. The staff were a blast from the past in terms of their uniforms and general attitudes. We received one smile from one member of staff, Mike, in the bar, who looked desperate to make friends given how empty & lonely the bar looked and one smile upon our arrival at check in from a lovely Ukrainian receptionist. The £14 breakfasts were horrible and not worth the £28 I forked out (so much for 'children go free'). All cooked ingredients were in bain marie's steaming away all morning. My son, who likes his food, left the sausages and bacon on his plate. I refused to eat any of it. I ate two slices of melon, two slices of grapefruit, a stale croissant and a slice of toast which took two runs on the conveyer belt toasting machine just to get a slight toasting. The bathroom in our room had beautiful, clean tiles and blue patterned ceramics on a boarder. They looked original. The hot water tap at the sink trickled and was stiff. The bathroom door coathook was missing! The shower was tempramental. Sad

Bathroom sink had large crack in it. TV only worked about 1 night out of the 4. Hotel had run out of CO2 for all 4 nights stay so there was no draught beer which completely ruined the planned evenings. Just lots of small issues, list goes on.

The room was really nice and the hotel was in a nice quiet area however for a four star hotel we were pretty disappointed. For a starter we had to wait 5 minutes at an empty reception when arriving (just before 8pm), then during check in we asked receptionist if the restaurant was still serving food and she said until 9pm. We put our backs away in room and went straight down about 20:10 and it had already closed At 8. The servers and chef were In process of leading but kindly made us a burger and a veg curry which was amazing service by them but made us feel guilty into leaving a larger tip than usual for forcing them to stay on. Then the following night there was a birthday party on in the lounge which is nice for the people to celebrate but music was blaring until after 1am and you could hear it all the way down to our room because we had one that had garden doors so we couldn’t sleep. Then when checking out we had to wait literally 15 minutes as the one receptionist was on the phone in the back so during the time were ignored by 5-6 menders of staff walking past, fair enough not their job but at least acknowledgement would be nice. Also the pillows were not very comfy. Overall it was ok I’ve stayed in worse but for the price and rating it was well below expectations.

Couldn’t fault it, always worry going to breakfast late that there won’t be much or it’s not as fresh, going down 30 Minutes before it finished and they were still bringing more out! Staff all super friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, coming from Plymouth an 8 hour drive we were gutted to have to leave a day early to get home before the snow and ice warnings kicked in! Will definitely be back again

We had roon 50, queen 4 poster bed, big spacious room. Shower, bath & tea/coffee etc. breakfast was good buffet variety and really tasty. Hot buffet, cold buffet, bread, cereals etc We used the leisure facilities both days including the gym, can’t fault anything.

The room was horrendously dirty. I stayed 3 nights and had no hot water the entire time. The pool was closed but we had not been told this before arriving. Staff told us it broke sunday and we arrived Tuesday so plenty of time to inform us. The sink was cracked and leaked water. The flush only worked if pressed in a certain way. I was put in an inter connecting room with a big gap down the door. Dogs barking and constant noise. No fair use policy for the ev charge point and people leaving cars plugged in deapite being fully charged. This was topped of by them trying to charge us for breakfast by invoice at the end. We didnt have breakfast and drinks had been added to our room. I refused to pay as someone was clearly using the wrong room number.

Nice room, curtains were dirty but everything else clean, unexpected closure of the spa which was the main reason I picked here, unfortunately I had guests in the next room which didn't respect the notification saying quiet space....we don't all want to get up early, spa was superb on my first night, unfortunately didn't get back in due to its closure
