Beautiful old hotel very conveniently located!

Beautiful old hotel. Location was great to explore Edinburgh old town. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. Room was large and quiet. Modern large bathroom with a large walk-in shower. Very comfortable beds with extra pillows upon request. Breakfast was very good. Loved the hot chocolate available at reception each day. It was pricey which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

Amazing Royal Mile Hotel

We've stayed at the Scotsman three times and we keep coming back. Great location that is central to Old Town, the Royal Mile and just a short walk across the North Bridge to get to New Town. The attentive staff takes care of most any need or issue that comes up. The rooms are great but the layouts seem to vary quite a bit within a single price range. Might want to call to try and get one that fits your preferences. Although, they're all great. We never did eat at the hotel bar but did have Afternoon Tea one day and that was a lot of food that was delicious. We especially enjoyed the various lounges that we could just grab a drink and go to. Even though it was sold out, we felt like we had the run of the place. A great experience.

I enjoyed my stay at the Scotsman. The staff was wonderful, especially James the concierge. James was able to unexpectedly, and without me asking, get a last minute reservation at Makars Mash for dinner. He was also able to recommend the best store to purchase a kilt and got me a discount on my purchase. Thanks for making me feel like family while staying at the hotel.

This is a lovely hotel in an excellent location: a converted historic building right next to Edinburgh Waverley train station. It would have been a wonderful stay except for one thing: when we arrived, after a very long series of flights, they wanted to kick us out. The receptionist said that they had overbooked and we’re going to send us to another hotel. I had booked months earlier, specifically for the location, and found this to be outrageous (and still do). After much argument they finally relented and allowed us to stay in the hotel we had booked and paid for. The rest of the stay was great, but what a terrible way to treat guests.

First stop on a three week trip and very happy. Ended up in a rather large room with a 180 degree view turret. Very quiet on our floor (9). Comfortable bed, linens, shower, etc. comfortable room to relax in. Service at hotel was great, the staff is professional and friendly as well as attentive. Be prepared to wait for the lift on busy weekends esp if on a high floor. During the week tho, no problem, it’s pretty quick, considering. Hot chocolate and naturally flavored water in the lobby was great after a full day out. Grand Cafe is also lovely. Did not do the house breakfast as there are plenty of good options just a few steps away. Hair dryer and the cherry on top- hair straightener in the room. In room safe, tea kettle and assorted tea, a few snacks in the cupboard. Would recommend.

This hotel is over priced and flatters to deceive. From the rude concierge to the leaky shower, the over cooked steak and the failed promise of the manager going to look at something for our inconvenience. I’d have rather spent my £600 elsewhere.
