A bargain inner city location.

Excellent location to tram and Central train station. Lots of restaurants around, mainly Asian as this location is close to China Town. A pleasant walk or tram ride to city centre. Dining room and hotel bar on premises. This is a popular hotel for travellers despite the rooms being a little tired. However if sparkles are not what you are after, it’s a great place to stay.

Great Location

Great location near Central Train station, local streetcar line and China Town. Dozens of great restaurants within walking distance and easy access on streetcar to harbor. Nice walkable neighborhood. Clean, comfortable rooms.

We choose this accommodation because of it's location and reasonable price - especially for Sydney. It is an easy 2 min walk (with suitcases in hand) to Central Railway Station. The staff happily allowed us into our room on arrival before lunch. The bed was very comfortable and clean (crispy sheets). I would recommend a stay here if you did not want all the bells and whistles, but did want value for money and cleanliness. Would stay again.

NIce art deco Hotel right on edge of Chinatown. Two doors from Wilson parking station. Room was large enough, quiet end of corridor room, so no foot traffic. Has breakfast available from $9. Great for Sydney Hotel price bracket.

This is really a tired place, you get exactly what you pay for, parking is expensive but secure and it is easily situated. The staff were friendly and it was exactly what I needed.

Overall cleanliness OK but I don’t think carpet would have been vacuumed as there was still a cover from umbrella on floor from previous guests. Electric jug inside cupboard was greasy and dirty

Spacious room and spacious bathroom with good water pressure. Comfortable bed and soft towels. Cheerful and helpful reception people. Really nice to have affordable breakfast options. Great location near Central Station and plenty of restaurant options nearby.

The Great Southern is a grand old lady of buildings. So much old world charm! Been staying for years until they decided to get rid of the family rooms. While the room was clean, great shower, easily accessible from central train station, the bed was terrible! Its the most important thing for me. Way past its use by date, could feel the springs, indents where bodies have lain, overall just very uncomfortable. Told the guy as i checked out, did not seem to care.

It would be nicer if the rooms where updated, not so dull and dated. Doesn't have to be modern, just updated with new fresh beds and more vibrant and fresh looking.
