It is okay, not great. Had a dirty facecloth in my room which was not a great start. It’s expensive considering the bathrooms are very dated and the rooms are small. Had a good dinner, staff were pleasant.

Property was central and well positioned, walking distance from the heart of Sydney. It was in a pretty rough shape though and the room smelled of mildew, lifts were slow and clunky.

Old world charm

The hotel had an old world charm and was comfortably appointed. Unfortunately we waited at reception for 10 mins whilst lone receptionist dealt with incoming phone calls. The room was worn but pleasant. The air conditioning was somewhat inconsistent and we found the bed a bit too soft.

The property is superb (apart from the cantankerous lifts) staff were efficient and engaging - and certainly not cantankerous. But more importantly in these times of degraded monolith hotel architecture those who preserve built heritage so magnificently should be supported. This hotel upcycles tradition and heritage beautifully. I have stayed several times before and will stay several times more when in Sydney.

Starting the day with a good coffee is a priority, yet a less than satisfactory self service machine is provided while a full espresso machine is used to deliver coffee for those wanting take-away only. The barista had a very poisonous attitude and many cups where not clean - lipstick residue and similar. Not a great way to start the day.
