Starting at check in, I enquired about upgrading to use level lounge which I have used many times at the sister property Melia Castilla. The price was extremely high and I asked did they could reduce this cost but to no avial, which was disappointing.
I was then allocated a very dark interior room with very little sunlight. I asked to move rooms and was offered a light larger room on the 2nd floor, however the street noise was extremely loud and as I had to work for the day, this was not going to work. I als to move rooms yet again and was moved to the 4th floor with a view of the side street so quieter and I excepted. Thought the room moving process I was made to feel like an inconvenience from reception staff, despite my valid reasons, the staff were not friendly and this was a huge disappointment. Always ask for a new room if you are not entirely happy with the first choice as this properly has many difference options for the same room category.
The towels in the room are rough, not fluffy and soft like other Melia properties and the hotel itself is looking very tired. The walls all need a lick of paint, especially in the corridors and the windows in the corridors need replacing. On the flip side, the bar staff were nice and friendly and provided a good atmosphere for an evening drink. The breakfast was outstanding. 10/10. a disappointing stay, Melia need to step up on customer service training and remind staff here that The customer is always right!!
