Holidays in The Loop

Work crushing your vibe? Trade KPIs and conference calls for G&Ts and great times in The Loop, Chicago! This lively city has a population of 2,700,000 people and draws plenty of curious visitors every year. To reach The Loop from central Chicago, you'll need to travel southeast for 0.4 kilometres. From Midway International Airport, it's a commute of 14 kilometres to the northeast.

The Loop is heaven for sightseers. A great deal of the city's attractions are dotted near this interesting neighbourhood, including the University of Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago. You should also be sure to pay a visit to Sears Tower and the McCormick Place. While you're in town, think about exploring other neighbourhoods to experience more of what Chicago has to offer. Chicago and Printers Row are good suggestions that aren't too far away.

Of course, one of the first stops you should make is the University of Illinois Chicago. This landmark is located just 2 kilometres west of The Loop.

Getting cabin fever in The Loop? Get out and see Navy Pier and the Lincoln Park Zoo, two highlights in the city centre. Alternatively, have a wander around the Chicago Cultural Center and the Merchandise Mart.

Holidaying without the children? The Second City, Kingston Mines, Blues on Halstead and Dave & Buster's ought to be at the very top of your schedule.

Some great cultural attractions are waiting. Start at the Cloud Gate, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, the Crown Fountain and the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts.

Sometimes a work of art can move you so much that you have to learn more about it. See if the staff can inform you about the pieces at the Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum, the Fine Arts Building and the Loyola University Museum of Art.

Ask about any special events that might be scheduled before heading over to see the collections at the Field Museum of Natural History, the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum, the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and the Driehaus Museum.

One of the measures of an exceptional performance tends to be how resounding the applause is when the curtains go down. Come and join in the cheers at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre, House of Blues Chicago, the Chicago Theatre and the Steppenwolf Theatre.

Kids can have the best time in the most surprising locations. Head off on an adventure with them to the Chicago Children's Museum, John G. Shedd Aquarium, the Newberry Library and the Harold Washington Library Center.

Holidaying with children can be exhausting. But don't worry, you'll definitely get a peaceful night's sleep after spending an afternoon with them at Northerly Island Park, Amazing Chicago's Funhouse Maze and Pump It Up Party Zone.

Put your phone on flight mode, disconnect from the stresses of modern life and delight in the splendour of nature at Skydeck Ledge and Bubbly Creek.

Seeing waves crashing onto the shore can be very soothing. Watch anything that may be troubling you float away at North Avenue Beach and Ohio Street Beach.

An appealing feature of this place is its nearby public parks. Amid all the activity, you'll find plenty of places to take a short walk or read a book. Millennium Park, Grant Park, Humboldt Park and Lincoln Park Conservatory are great options.

The best way to relive your holiday is by returning home with a few souvenirs. See what you can get at Maxwell Street Market, 900 North Michigan Shops, Sullivan Center and Green City Market.

Journey back through the mists of time at John Hancock Center, the Buckingham Fountain, Chicago Water Tower and Tribune Tower. These age-old attractions have a collection of illuminating stories to tell.

Discover the region's spiritual aspects at Holy Name Cathedral, S.S. Peter and Paul Church, Pilgrim Baptist Church and St Pius Church. These places are worth visiting whether you're religious or not.

Cheer alongside the local fans at a concert or game at United Center. The site is the home of the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Blackhawks, and is often hosting a lineup of talented music acts.
