Holiday In Gold Coast

Unlike Paris Hilton and the Kardashians, Australia’s Gold Coast, just south of Brisbane, is famous for a reason. It’s got beaches and rainforest, pool parties and pub crawls.

It’s super laid-back, but filled with glitz and glamour. Most of all, it’s up for anything. A Gold Coast holiday may be all high rises and disco balls on the surface, but you’ll find this city really has a heart of gold (we can’t speak for the Kardashians, though).

Things to Do in the Gold Coast

If you’re looking to catch a party more so than a wave, Surfers Paradise in the north is definitely the place to be. Scope out the best breaks from 230 m in the air at the observation deck on top of the Q1 skyscraper, then hit the day clubs and beaches. Just want to find your zen on the board? Take one of lastminute.com.au’s sweet Gold Coast car hire deals to the south, where Snapper Rocks and Greenmount Beach near the village of Coolangatta are all about world-famous breaks, without the hype.

If your paradise is a stretch of sand with only crashing waves and sips of a frosty adult beverage as your soundtrack, ditch the crowds with Gold Coast package deals in Broadbeach. “Broadie” may often be called the little sister to Surfers Paradise, but it takes the lead when it comes to lazy days of beach yoga, market browsing and alfresco dining.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

On Gold Coast holidays, pulling yourself away from the beach for a while is totally worth it. After your Sunday morning sun salutations, head to Pratten Park for the Broadbeach Art and Craft Market. On Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings, the Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets are the place to see and be seen—oh, and shop. Everything that glitters in the Gold Coast may not be gold, but it’s probably still a gorgeous piece of handmade jewellery or stained glass.

After a day of shopping and wallaby sightings (hopefully!), it’s definitely time to sink into your chair of choice and chow down. In the Gold Coast, that chair can be just about anywhere, but let’s be real—it’s probably on the beach. From the food truck festivals of Miami in the south to five-star dining on the Esplanade of Surfers Paradise, ocean views are always steps away. Also never far: buckets of king prawns, grilled catch of the day and the freshest fish and chips to ever touch your taste buds.

When it comes to nightlife, forget Sydney and Melbourne. You can even forget Brisbane, though it’s not far. If you’re looking for an epic party, all you need are Gold Coast packages in Surfers Paradise. Sydney’s days as “Sin City” are over Gold Coast takes the crown these days. Make an evening (and morning) of popping into the sleek bars and clubs along the Esplanade, and you’ll see why.

No housekeeping service for short stay, they say they only do it every other day. Our room was a deluxe king on the 10th floor but only had one window which faced a brick wall and emergency stairwell. Not a great view. AC unit was old and noisy. Room was clean. Staff was friendly.

I have been staying at the Ambassador for a long time. Since the Pump Room was still there and there was a doorman. I have always loved it there, but lately it really isn't the same.
