The only issue we had which is why not an excellent was our hotel room location. Unless they soundproof the door, we heard everything as we were at the crossroads of where the cleaning staff stored everything and where all of the people returning to their rooms from the lobby entered. thus we heard EVERYTHING, include the ice machine being used and all of the conversations, kids, etc... as we were not up at 6am every morning, we were usually woken up. Overall the property was great. We also felt a need for a venue that stayed open past midnight. just an option for those not wanting to have to go to the room to make a drink and come back to the lobby to converse.

With it being in a gated community, felt very safe staying there, helpful and professional staff available 24-7. Found delicious meal options at every a la carte, and did not have a single bad meal the entire 11 days/10 nights I was there. Room 3089 was well-appointed, comfortable, and there were elevators at this property even though the details I read said there was not. Loved the coffee bar, open til midnight, located just off the lobby and across from the Daiquiri bar. Housekeeping staff always ensured room was clean and comfortable, and fridge and in room bar were well stocked. Room service 24-h and very prompt, with a limited menu but it even had vegetarian options on it. Some sargassum on beach but was tidied up daily (and it’s nature, don’t let that discourage you from a great experience at this 1 of 5 RIU properties in Playacar). Groundskeepers kept the property beautiful, and maintenance and housekeeping make the resort literally shine. Didn’t spend much time at the pool or beach, due to needing to stay out of sun/heat. Special shout out to Angel & Salazar at the Capuchino coffee bar; Luis and Claudia at Daiquiri; Augustina at Il Portico; too many wonderful staff to name, who work hard to make your experience a wonderful one. Cannot wait to return!

This was our 4th vacation at a Riu Palace, first one at this particular resort (Playa del Carmen)..we stay with them because the people, service, dining and resort are always fabulous the only slight negative on this trip was that due to the continued very hot weather, the swimming pools water was warmer than what i prefer...still swam them every day as well as the ocean
