Holidays in Essendon

Bring your thirst for adventure along with that much-used suitcase. It's time to see what Essendon is made of! A fabulous Melbourne 'hood, it's a fantastic place to experience another side of the capital of Victoria. Up for meeting a local or two? No problemo. Around 4,200,000 people live in Melbourne. Essendon is 8 kilometres northwest of the centre of the city. If you're arriving from Tullamarine Airport, hop into a taxi and go 10 kilometres to the southeast.

This city isn't short on things to do, and you'll discover many of them near Essendon. It's difficult to choose the best attractions, but the Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex and Federation Square are two you won't want to miss. The have-to-see sights of the University of Melbourne and the RMIT University are also easily accessible. A brilliant way to take in this city is to wander a few of its neighbourhoods. So why not go to nearby Essendon North and Strathmore and discover their sights and sounds?

St. Kilda Beach is certainly up there with the most iconic attractions of Melbourne. Reaching it won't be a challenge, as it's situated just 6 kilometres from the downtown area.

You'll never want for things to do in the city centre. Luna Park and the Melbourne Zoo will keep you entertained for hours. You'd be crazy to leave the area without having a look around Melbourne Aquarium and the Melbourne Museum as well.

Sometimes it's the biggest and best exhibits that excite us the most. Other times it's an overlooked object that's been hidden in a dim corner. Keep an eye out for both at Asia Society and Museum and the Grainger Museum.

The greens of the Northern Golf Club and the Westgate Golf Course are calling your name. Practise your swing, play a friendly round with the locals and attempt to shave some strokes off your score.

Switch your phone off, disengage from the strains of modern life and bask in the calm of the outdoors at the CERES Community Environment Park and Ormiston Gorge and Pound.

Prepare a delicious picnic and invite a few friends down for a chat in one of the relaxing green spaces nearby. Take your pick from Royal Park, Martin Reserve, Brimbank Park and Queens Park.

A trip away is the ideal time to hit the shops and grab yourself some knickknacks. Remember to have a walk through Highpoint Shopping Centre and DFO Essendon!

Fawkner Memorial Park and Melbourne General Cemetery are bound to impress any visiting history nerds. Do some research beforehand so you can fully appreciate these striking sites.

Slip on your navy blue and white and see Australian rules football (AFL) team the Carlton Football Club bid for glory at Etihad Stadium. Also the home arena of the Essendon Football Club and the North Melbourne Football Club, it's a good idea to check the schedule of this sporting hub and time your stay with a big game.
