Mixed bag.
The tents were lovely and the location is stunning. However there was no maintenance team so the toilet on our site was out of order, we were the only tent without cushions on our chairs (because they had “run out”?) and all the grills weren’t working. When we asked about any of these things staff had no interest so this isn’t somewhere to stay if you have questions.
Although it’s such a beautiful location I’d stay here again if the place was better maintained.
This is a gem! Originally not excited about no en-suite, but the view and access to the lake were unbeatable! Walking to the shared amenities (shower and toilet) took nothing away from the beautiful view that was unobstructed by tents, campers, cars. The deck and chairs were most comfortable as was the loft bed. What a wonderful find
This was a fun adventure. I’d rate it higher because it was very good considering it was camping in a tent. But it was not a hotel nor was it intended to be a hotel. I’d definitely stay again. The bed and pillows were comfortable. We were right next to the lake.
The little cabin I stayed in was great and had fab facilities within it and the best view of the lake. The bathroom facilities could have done with being updated
Clean, comfy cabins. Good location - close to wanaka and on the edge of Lake Hawae which was lovely. Just a note, you need to rent any kitchen equipment here which is fine but something to keep in mind when planning.
We are campers, so understand what's involved in living in a campground. The lake was beautiful. The tents nice. We did not use the heaters though it was cold, till morning. Bedding was great. The restroom was a bit of a walk but a port o let was available closeby for those midnight bathroom calls. The kitchen was well supplied. The only microwave was available in the central kitchen. All in all, it was a good experience.
We rented the family cottage and it was the best. Had an excellent time and it was very clean. There is a food truck as well. The camp at lake hawea was by far our fav stay. Will visit again. - canada.
We stayed in the tiny house on the lake. It was fantastic. The view was unbelievable. It had a full kitchen and large fridge. It was small but very comfortable. There was no bathroom in the cabin but the shared bathroom facilities were close by and there was a very clean porta potty closer by. We were there for 2 nights and wish we had more time to stay there.
I will only comment on the glamping tents as that’s where we stayed.
Good standard, perhaps over-priced for the standard.
Friendly staff and good service.
Showers on site were of a good standard Glamping tent area had a gas grill and washing up point, a central fire pit and a games tent.
All in positive
Will definitely stay here again! Beautiful location on the lake and only a 5min walk to town. The bell tent was very comfy and clean, the kitchen had everything we needed including a refrigerator, and the bathrooms and showers were great. We loved swimming in the lake, having dinner by the fire pit, and grabbing a latte from the food truck in the morning.
We had a good, comfortable glamping experience at Lake Hawea. The tent was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the area is beautiful. Check in was easy and friendly. The heated mattresses were definitely a bonus!

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
We didn’t stay and went elsewhere as bathroom facilities far from tents and limited in quantity.
