Fernweh, FOMO, wanderlust. Whatever you want to call it, there’s only one way to cure it — get yourself to Xuanwu. No matter what type of incredible adventures you want to have, this Beijing neighbourhood has loads going for it. Want to get to know the locals? With around 11,700,000 people calling the capital of China home, you'll have stacks of opportunities. Once you've hit the tarmac at Nanyuan Airport and collected your bags from the carousel, Xuanwu will be a drive of 11 kilometres to the north. From the city's centre, it's 4 kilometres to the southwest.
Xuanwu is a wonderland for sightseers. Many of the city's best attractions are dotted near this neighbourhood, including Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. After taking a look at those, you're going to want to continue on to the Temple of Heaven and Beihai Park. While you're here, consider checking out other neighbourhoods to taste more of what Beijing has to offer. Maliandao Tea Street and Beijing Financial Street are great suggestions that are a short distance away.
If you wouldn't mind discovering some highlights in the city centre, head straight to the CCTV Headquarters and the Great Hall of the People. To get an even better feel for the area, also look around the Lama Temple and the Tiananmen.
A few excellent cultural attractions are waiting. Start the day at the Pace, the China Art Gallery, the Imperial City Art Trading Centre and the Relic Hall of Chinese Buddhism Books.
Regional art galleries like the National Art Museum of China, the Capital Museum, the Treasure Gallery and the UCCA give you a glimpse into the creative history of the region. Why not find out if there's an opening planned and admire some of the wonderful works?
Take a look into the glass cabinets and discover the objects on display as you stroll through the fascinating collections of the Beijing Museum of Natural History, the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution, the Museum of the Chinese Revolution and the Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum.
One of the hallmarks of a great show is often the amount of applause when it's finished. Watch the audience rise to their feet at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, the Tianqiao Acrobatics Theatre, Mei Lanfang Grand Theater and the Huguang Guild Hall.
Kids tend to have fun in rather surprising places. Go on an adventure with them to Beijing Aquarium, Tai Ping Yang Underwater World Exhibition, the National Library of China and the Imperial Archives.
The Beijing Garden of World Flowers, Macao River, Tongzi River and Shicha Lake Park are among the most impressive spots for nature lovers to get out into the fresh air.
If all the activity of city life is wearing you out, recharge your batteries in one of the local green spaces. Jingshan Park, Yuyuantan Park, Temple of Heaven Park and Taoranting Park are wonderful places to take a relaxing stroll.
Nothing beats indulging in a bit of retail therapy. Give your purse a workout at Hongqiao Market, Dong Hua Men Night Market, Xidan Shopping Center and Baoguosi Market.
You never know what you might find at Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, the China Museum of History, the Zhengyangmen and Zhongnanhai. These age-old sites have plenty of tales to share.
Learn about the region's spiritual side or just take a moment in the serene surrounds of St. Joseph's Cathedral, the Niujie Mosque, the Baiyun Guan and the Guangji Temple.
Whether you're throwing down cash on your honeymoon or seeking budget vibes, Xuanwu has you covered! For a cosy room at a cheerful rate, take a look at the Super 8 Hotel Guozhan - Beijing or the Zilong Hotel - Beijing. However, if you're the type who likes to relax in luxury on holiday, The Ritz-Carlton Beijing Financial Street or the Grand Hyatt Beijing might be more up your alley.
