Holidays in Taksim

Like selfies and good coffee, there’s no such thing as too much travel. So why not make Taksim, Istanbul, your next big adventure? This vibrant city has a population of around 11,200,000 people, as well as stacks of adventures you’ll want to cross off your bucket list. To get to Taksim from Ataturk International Airport, jump in a taxi and head northeast for 15 kilometres. You'll find this neighbourhood 3 kilometres northeast of the city centre.

This city has no shortage of things to see and do, and you'll uncover many of them near Taksim. It's no simple task to pick the top sights, but the Hagia Sophia and the Hippodrome are a couple you won't want to miss. You should also make sure to drop by the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace. While you're in town, think about visiting other neighbourhoods to appreciate more of what Istanbul has to offer. Talimhane and Cihangir are some great areas that are within easy reach.

One of the top reasons to stay in Taksim is that Basilica Cistern sits just 3 kilometres to the south. This world-renowned attraction has to be seen to be believed.

If you wouldn't mind seeing some of the highlights in the city centre, head to Galata Tower and Bosphorus Bridge. Dolmabahce Palace and Spice Bazaar are a few more of the area's biggest draw cards.

Travelling without the children? Cicek Pasaji, the Levent Tennis Club, Istanbul Jumping and The Club should be at the very top of your schedule.

Like to exercise your mind? The Gallery Apel, the Sanatorium Gallery, the Akbank Culture and Arts Centre and the Kasa Gallery are some recommended cultural sites.

Nothing quietens the mind and stirs the imagination like spending time in a gallery. Spark your curiosity as you view the thought-provoking works on display at the Istanbul Modern Art Museum, the Pera Museum, the Mosaic Museum and the Turkish and Islamic Art Museum.

Ask about any special events that might be scheduled before making your way over to peruse the displays at Florence Nightingale Museum, the Museum of Innocence, the Istanbul Military Museum and the Rahmi M Koc Museum.

One of the measures of a good show is often the amount of applause when the curtains go down. Watch the audience rise to their feet at Nardis Jazz Club, Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall, Garaj Istanbul and Sureyya Opera House.

There's nothing like travelling with sprightly kids to make you feel youthful again. Join them on an excursion to Corkulu Ali Pasa Medresesi, the Atatürk Library and the Madame Tussauds Istanbul.

Are you travelling with the little ones but have run out of ideas of things to keep them entertained? Miniaturk, Vialand, the Istanbul Karting Park and Babalu Park are some local attractions they're guaranteed to love.

Switch your phone off, unplug yourself from the stresses of modern living and bask in the tranquillity of nature at Camlica Hill, Piyer Loti, Suada Island and Sultans Trail.

Whether you'd like to sit under a tree with a book or hang out with some friends, the nearby green spaces are great places to be. Choose from either Taksim Gezi Park, Gulhane Park, Yildiz Park and Turkbalon.

A wonderful way to relive your holiday is by going home with a memento or two. See what you can pick up at Grand Bazaar, Istanbul Cevahir Shopping and Entertainment Centre, Capitol Mall and Akmerkez.

Taksim Square, the Cagaloglu Hamami, the Istanbul Archaeology Museum and Beylerbeyi Palace can give you a glimpse back into the area's past.

Whether you want to learn some more about the region's traditions and customs or just take in the peaceful surrounds, get going to the Suleymaniye Mosque, Chora Church, Church of St. George and the Rustem Pasha Mosque.

Get kitted out in red and yellow, take off to Turk Telekom Arena and wildly cheer on the Galatasaray. A visit to this venue is obligatory for true soccer fans!

Not comfortable
"My stay included 1 Bed and 1 Sofa Bed for my son. Instead of a sofa bed there was only a sofa which is termed as a bed. To sleep on that for 3 nights is not comfortable. Hotel needs to be honest and state this room is only for 2 Adults."
