San Mateo is located 30 kilometres south of the centre of town. If you're coming in via San Francisco International Airport, you'll need to pick up your luggage, jump into a taxi and travel 10 kilometres southeast.

This city has no shortage of things to do, and many of them can be found near San Mateo. It's not easy to pick the best sights, but the Filoli and the Hiller Aviation Museum are two you shouldn't miss out on. Don't forget to put the Crystal Springs Golf Course and Hillsdale Shopping Center on your itinerary too. For a better perspective of this vibrant city as a whole, visit the close-by neighbourhoods of Foster City and Belmont.
