The property was undergoing renovations, which they had not told us about. When we arrived, our rooms air conditioning did not work, and it took several hours for them to find another room for us. Our daughter and son-in-law‘s room was so loud from the bar next-door they had to sleep with the TV on and then the elevator went out so everyone kept walking back-and-forth right by their room. During the day when they wanted to rest a jackhammer started right outside their room for the renovations. None of this was really acknowledged by the staff. Upon arrival, the first person we dealt with, a young man was so helpful, but from then on no one else was. The location of the property was excellent for walk ability.

One night in South Beach

The room was clean and suited us fine but there wasn't any indication that the front entrance had scaffolding and tarps from some sort of remodel. Also the description wasn't clear that it was neighboring the Clevlander and not actually the Clevlander.

Not much care has been taken to detail in any type of remodeling or repainting. Very obvious, patchwork and sloppy craftsmanship. Of course the building is old, but shelves installed upside down for example. You can’t beat the location, however. Minutes from the beach, tons of dining nearby. The staff was amazing and the extra touch of beverage coupons and coffee and croissant in the morning were really nice. Great water pressure in the showers. Valley parking is pricey as expected, but the process is confusing. You leave your car and keys with someone entirely before you go inside and get any kind of ticket so it feels very questionable. Not a great place for a quiet night sleep so bring your earplugs and settle in.

Hard time with hotel. Fire alarm battery low went off first night. Told front desk and was told "I'm here alone what do you want me to do about it?" And was then advised to take care of it ourselves but we were too afraid to actuallyset the alarm off. Went back down and reluctantly changed the room. Took two hours and were up at 3am to 5am for that. Then tried to go the pool bar at sister hotel as we were advised to use their facilities and and when i apptoached midnightb the next day i was told "no more food. No go. " even though we were told serving food until 4am. The manager did comp two nights resort fees but as we didn't use the hotel resort options didn't really matter. The manager was nice with drunk tickets and the comp of the resort feees but night clerk and the hotel waiter were unpleasant and very dismissive. Will try a different hotel for next 70k cruise next year.

The ONLY positive about this property was the proximity to the beach. Customer service was misleading offering early check in and not divulging that it was an extra cost, and was only given 1 hour of an earky check in for a room I didn’t book. I was never informed of the maintenance that was taking place on the property AND my booked garden suite room until 1 hour prior to my check in time. Their only recourse was to offer me a basic room without proper compensation. This was a trip I planned for my daughter’s birthday and this experience did NOT provide the start to our celebration as it should have. I’m still currently waiting for proper compensation either from the hotel or Expedia.

No parking but parking was advertised, room had a mildew type smell that was in our clothes when we got home, parking garage, had very strong urine smell,had to wait to enter the parking garage that cost an extra $42.50 a night, very very noisy from tenants beside us an above us, hotel is very outdated that for certain, pool next door not at the hotel, it was a mess won’t be returning there if they gave free twenty day stay!

We enjoyed our stay at Essex House. The property needs some updating. There was condensation on our air conditioner that dripped in the room and made a puddle that could not be fixed and had to be cleaned up periodically. Our key to the hotel front door never worked, we had to be buzzed in several times.
