Front desk people were helpful. Dining room staff (both dining rooms) were mixed. Some were helpful and some much less so. The public areas and dining rooms were beautiful. Our room, which we upgraded to have a balcony, was surprisingly spartan. No safe, no room phone, no refrigerator, no lotion or hair conditioner. A single liquid soap for hands, body and shampoo. Room needed some TLC with a split in the upholstered bed frame, door jams beat up, a big black mark in the tub. The tub/shower was dangerous with a big step up and over (tub on some sort of lifted base), and then getting out from the slippery porcelain at an end that was sloped was precarious and we are fit people. The view of the fjord was stunning, but the room is more like a dorm room and needs updates. Plugs to charge electronics are found only at the baseboard level. The 3rd floor dining room food was very well prepared and delicious. The buffet breakfast had many options, but hot items were not tasty. Would have liked some nondairy milk options for cereal, coffee and tea.

Nice hotel located very close to the fjord cruises. A few good dining options nearby if you don’t want to eat at the hotel restaurant. Everything in Flam is a bit expensive as it’s a tourist spot. But a beautiful location to visit, and a lovely hotel to stay in.

The hotel was nice. Did not like the bathroom, old rationed with sink with no counter space, it had old claw foot tub that there was no way to take a shower without flooding the floor since shower curtain didn’t go around the whole thing. Expensive hotel but still paid a lot to park and to top it off if you wanted to charge an electric car in the lot you had to buy some $20 card the hotel sells you to be able to use the charging if you are not from Scandinavia. Seemed like a money grab to me.

The property is warm and comforting. The lounge was restful and offered some lovely scenery. The staff were helpful and friendly. The moss on the outside decks should be cleaned as well as the hallway carpets!!! The food was okay but not great. But overall we enjoyed our stay.

My stay was wonderful! The hotel's location near the train station and cruise dock was ideal. Friendly staff, delicious breakfast, and a quiet, dark room ensured a restful stay. The only drawback was the lack of bedside power outlets.

The bed was so comfortable with the cleanest sheets. The included breakfast was excellent! It is expensive because of the location, but a good option for an overnight stay. We stayed in the family room and it was quite spacious and looked like the pictures.

Their dining room closes at 9pm! The last Flam train gets in at 8:49 and so it is a rush to try and get to the dining - a buffet. They should extend the hours by 15 or 30 minutes and also serve a La carte especially for vegetarian guests. Their buffet is meat and fish heavy. Their breakfast buffet is also meat and fish heavy. Few hot dish options for vegetarian guests.

While the included breakfast was superior as was the view of the fjord from the restaurant, we had higher expectations for our room. The size wasn’t ideal for three adults and there wasn’t much of a view. The decor bordered on charming yet dated. The hotel’s proximity to the railway station and cruise ship ports, while convenient, made the location very touristy.

If you’re coming to Flåm then you MUST stay at the Fretheim Hotel! Breakfast is included and feels like a 5 star dining experience. Every outdoor excursion and dining is steps away. The rooms are clean, soft beds, and the views spectacular!
