"Lovely accommodation"
The Freshwater Apartments were a gorgeous Kununurra option before we headed off to camping in the Kimberley. The pool was fantastic and the rooms and kitchen were a generous size and on the luxurious side of other self catered apartments we've stayed in. You can't go wrong here.

A little run down Screaming drunk aboriginals in the car park by our room on last night. Police should clamp down on these behaviours. Convient location. Reasonable price that makes it worth while staying night when you live a few hours awzy.

"Inexpensive, clean and friendly"
I really enjoyed my stay at Wunan House. It is a very clean and humble place to lodge. At this time of the year it is a bit quiet but I really appreciated Mauns kindness in driving me to a few places as taxis may not always be reliable. The grounds are well maintained and the rooms are functional and pleasant.

Kununurra has been an agricultural and farming area for many years; people were farming the land back in the 19th century, producing a variety of crops. There are several Aboriginal communities within easy reach of the main town, each with long traditions and customs. The name is a variant of a tribal word that means "Big Water".

    Things to do

Nature and scenery are two top reasons to visit Kununurra. The surrounding areas are traversed by rivers and waterholes, lakes, lush flood plains, springs, waterfalls, beautiful valleys and jagged gorges. Mirima National Park is a favourite spot, and lakes such as Lake Argyle and Lake Kununurra offer a range of outdoor activities. Numerous picnic spots mean that you can dine alfresco with some glorious views – why not have a picnic at sunset to inject some romance into your trip? For sweeping views head to Kelly’s Knob, one of the highest points near town. Within Kununurra you can spend time at the distillery and Celebrity Tree Park. See the imaginative rock formation that looks like both an elephant and a reclining Buddha.

    Shopping and dining

Pick up some local souvenirs in one of the small shops dotted around town. There are heaps of places to enjoy some good old Aussie tucker, although you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised to find that many dishes are created with a local twist! Kangaroo and crocodile are very popular fare and there are stacks of fresh fruit and veggies.

    Getting here and around

Because the area is pretty isolated and remote, with many of the main sighs spread out over fairly big distances, renting a car is one of the best ways to see the area. You can get a cheap flight to Kununurra and some great Kununurra accommodation, so what are you waiting for?
