Holidays in Yongdap-tong

Fernweh, FOMO, wanderlust. Whatever you want to call it, there's only one way to fix it — visit Yongdap-tong. No matter what sort of adventures you want to have, this Seoul 'hood has plenty going for it. With 10,300,000 people calling the capital of South Korea home, you're bound to meet some new friends (or maybe even a new bae) during your stay. Once you've stepped off the plane at Gimpo International Airport and plucked your bags from the carousel, Yongdap-tong will be a drive of 20 kilometres to the east. From the centre of Seoul, it's 7 kilometres to the east.

This city is filled with impressive things to do, and many of them are found near Yongdap-tong. It's difficult to choose the leading attractions, but Dongdaemun Market and Gyeongbok Palace are a couple you shouldn't miss out on. You should also visit the COEX Convention and Exhibition Center and the National Museum. While you're in town, consider checking out a few other neighbourhoods to experience more of what Seoul has to offer. Changanil-tong and Tapsimniil-tong are good suggestions that are within easy reach.

Getting cabin fever in Yongdap-tong? Then get out and see the Korea University and the Sungnyemun Gate, two fabulous sights in the city centre. To get an even better feel for your surrounds, also stop by Deoksugung Palace and N Seoul Tower.

Looking to blow off a little steam? Fun stops include Korea House, the Seven Luck Casino Seoul Gangnam Branch and the Paradise Casino Walkerhill.

The Horim Art Center, Kring, the Opera Gallery and the Arko Art Center are recommended for those eager to learn a few things about the local culture.

While you're able to view a great variety of art online these days, there's nothing better than experiencing the real thing. Discover the region's creative side by visiting the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, the Artsonje Center, the Chojun Textile & Quilt Art Museum and the Bukchon Art Museum.

Gaze into the glass cabinets and find out more about the artefacts on display as you stroll through the engaging collections of the Kimchi Museum, the Sejong University Museum, the Lock Museum and the Seoul Olympic Museum.

What better way to finish a day's sightseeing than with a meal and some entertainment? Check the programme listings at the National Theater, Seoul Nori Madang, AX-Korea and the Seoul Namsan Gugakdang.

Kids tend to have fun in rather surprising places. Treat them with visits to COEX Aquarium, Ssamji-gil, the Seoul Animation Center and the Namsan Cable Car.

Holidaying with kids can use up a lot of your energy. But never fear, you're guaranteed your forty winks after spending a few hours with them at Lotte World, Children's Grand Park, Kukkiwon and Kidzania.

The Namsan Botanical Garden and Dream Forest can give you a glimpse into the birds, trees and plants that inhabit the local area.

If the chaos of the city is getting a bit much, head to one of the nearby local parks. Namsan Park, Seoul Forest, Tapgol Park and Songpa Naru Park are charming spots to take some time out.

A trip away is the perfect time to splurge a little and grab a few souvenirs. Make sure you drop into COEX Mall, Lotte Department Store, Seoul Folk Flea Market and Doota Mall!

Changgyong Palace, Seonjeongneung Royal Tombs, Changdeokgung Palace and the Sungkyunkwan University can give you a glimpse back into the past.

Whatever your beliefs, it's worth going to the Jogyesa Temple, the Bongeunsa Temple, Jongmyo Shrine and Myeongdong Cathedral.

Whether you follow a team or just want to get caught up in the intoxicating atmosphere, don't miss out on purchasing tickets to a game at Jamsil Baseball Stadium. Don't be shy to take part in any songs, chants or Mexican waves that occur while you're there, especially if hometown heroes the LG Twins or the Doosan Bears are the ones on the field!
