From Xerta, head 200 kilometres northeast and you'll arrive in the exciting city of Andorra la Vella.
Sitting 60 kilometres to the east, Levante Beach is a lovely place to spend a little time relaxing with your nose in a book. La Concha Beach also boasts some gorgeous views. You'll find this piece of coastline 95 kilometres to the east.
Mother Nature's artwork is on display in many places around Xerta. Just 40 kilometres away, Masmut Rocks is a great place to kick off your sightseeing. Calaceite Hill sits 25 kilometres away and is another ideal spot for a bit of downtime.
If you'd like to do some exploring, add a trip to Aldover to your itinerary. This destination is 4 kilometres to the south and is the home of Santa Maria de Tortosa Cathedral and La Suda Castle. After some more ideas? Pauls is 5 kilometres to the northwest of Xerta and is proud to offer Sant Blai de Bot Church and the Ecomuseu dels Ports.
Want to go and check out the Prince’s Gardens, the Royal Schools and the Renaissance Interpretation Centre and Catedral de Santa Maria? Then head to Tortosa, 11 kilometres to the southeast. Els Ports and the Monument a la Batalla de l’Ebre are also conveniently close and should be included in your travel plans.
Eating is one of life's greatest pleasures, and since you're reading this, you probably think travel is too. Combine your affection for both by heading out and sampling the local food and drink at some of the restaurants, cafés and bars in town.
Do you love your hazelnuts? How about rice? Whether you're keen on them or not, they are two ingredients commonly found in dishes here.
During your time in Xerta, dine like the locals do. That means sampling a plate of pa amb tomàquet (tomato bread) or escudella (pasta stew), a couple of the area's specialties.
If you never refuse the dessert menu, we don't think you'll be disappointed. Make sure you try turron de agramunt (wafer sweet), a delicious treat that's sure to satisfy your sugar cravings.
Make use of your time in the air by practising a handful of expressions in Spanish. Try to articulate '¡Salud!'. It translates to 'cheers/good health!'. '¡Hola!' ('hello') is one more you may need.
Plan to be here around the 12th of October? What good luck. Each year on this day, the whole nation bands together to celebrate National Day.
You may be poor in European euros by the end of your trip, but you'll be rich in extraordinary experiences. "Adiós" Xerta!
When it's time to pack your suitcase and take off, the nearest terminal, Barcelona International Airport (BCN), is 140 kilometres to the east.
Want a recommendation? The Parador de Tortosa and Hotel SB Corona Tortosa are on par when it comes to great service and a decent night's rest.
