Holidays in Moscow

Often, it's the people who live in a city that make it unique. In this part of Moscow Oblast, there's 10,400,000 of them.

Not sure where to start in this mesmerising travel destination? Red Square and Moscow Kremlin are top choices.

Sometimes it's hard to find activities that the entire family will enjoy. Luckily, sights such as Kva-Kva Aquapark, Waterpark Caribia and the Russian Fairy-tales Museum mean this isn't an issue in Moscow.

Your littlest travellers will be wide-eyed with delight during a visit to the Moscow Zoo. They'll experience an up-close look at how animals behave as well as learn about what it takes to look after them.

You needn't be an avid gardener to take pleasure in the lush garden beds at the Moscow Botanical Gardens and the Central Botanical Garden. Many visitors also like to stroll around the Aptekarskiy Ogorod Botanical Garden.

Victory Park and the Alexander Gardens are wonderful places to get a little sun, enjoy a picnic or just settle back and people-watch. Also think about finding a nice patch of grass and whiling away an afternoon at Sokolniki Park or Hermitage Garden.

Slip on some comfortable walking shoes and get set to go adventuring. There are lots of nature reserves around this area that are just waiting to be enjoyed. The fresh, crisp air and natural surroundings at Bitsa Park and Lossiny Ostrov National Park are as rejuvenating as they come. For a little bit more quiet time, head to Sparrow Hills and Troparevsky Forest Park.

Eye-opening exhibits await you at the Kremlin Armoury Museum and the Metro Museum. They're peaceful sites to regain composure or escape a stormy day. Museum buffs also need to go to Diamond Fund and the Museum of Cosmonautics.

Discover more about the seafaring past of the region while checking out the salt-encrusted stories and artefacts that are displayed at the Russian Submarine Museum.

The impressive scientific gadgets at the Polytechnical Museum and the Experimentanium are bound to get your mind buzzing. For even more from the wonderful world of science, you should also visit Moscow Planetarium. Don't forget to enquire about any travelling exhibitions that are on.

Learn more about the natural world when you make the trip to the Orlov Museum of Paleontology and the State Darwin Museum. With so many amazing things exhibited in the display shelves, you might not know where to begin! The earth's creations are almost infinite, and you can dig up some more of them at the Mytishchi Museum of Nature Protection and the Vernadsky State Geological Museum.

In a place brimming with impressive art exhibitions, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and the State Tretyakov Gallery somehow manage to stand out from the rest. If you're feeling inspired, continue onwards to the New Tretyakov Gallery - Museum of Modern Art and the Andrei Rublev Museum of Early Russian Art.

Get a glimpse into the impact that Moscow's past people and events had on the country, and sometimes the world, at the State Historical Museum and the Domodedovo History and Art Museum. You'll also discover eye-opening exhibits which help bring history to life at the Ivanteyevka Museum of History and Local Lore and the Memorial Museum of German Anti Fascists.

Get a sense of bygone times when you visit the Moscow State University and the Triumphal Arch. If you're eager for more, the Old English Court and Graveyard of Fallen Monuments are also worthwhile attractions.

How about seeing Moscow from a whole new angle? Check out Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge and Rostokinsky Aqueduct, two historic pieces of architecture that have been a fixture above the waterways for many years.

For a look into the lives of the rich and famous, check out Ostankino Palace and Palace of the Romanov Boyars. But lo and behold, they're not the only glossy residences you'll run into in Moscow. Petrovsky Palace and Catherine's Palace are also worth a visit.

The watchful turrets and solid stone walls of Meyendorff Castle were developed to protect its inhabitants from intrusion. This incredible architecture alone makes a visit worthwhile, not to mention the fascinating history found within.

Whatever you believe in, you're sure to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere at St. Basil's Cathedral and Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Novodevichy Convent and Cemetery and Church of the Ascension are also vital pieces of the city's cultural identity.

It's better to look over your life and say, 'Can you believe I did that?' rather than, 'I wish I had done that.' So, while you are here you shouldn't miss the chance to venture to some of the less famous attractions, such as Bagration Bridge and Crimean Bridge. There's also plenty to keep you occupied at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bukhta Radosti.
