Holiday In Milan

We’re just going to say it: Milan has better shopping than Rome, better food than Florence and culture to rival any Italian city. It’s got “The Last Supper” painting and the Duomo, a cathedral so intricate it took 500 years to build—enough said. Need proof? Book a Milan holiday package and find out for yourself!

Things to Do in Milan

If you just landed but you’re ready to party, Colonne di San Lorenzo is your place. Where else can you wander through Roman ruins to the sound of drum circles? Grab a drink in a plastic cup from a pop-up vendor and you’ll feel like you’re in college all over again—except a way cooler version, where you’re mingling with locals on an Italy holiday.

Holidays to Milan are packed with statues, churches and museums, each with an interesting story (ear sculptures that grant wishes and flamingos are just two things you could look up). But if you want stories to impress your boss or your new beau’s family, head to Pinacoteca di Brera, the city’s best art museum. You’ll certainly sound cultured when you describe tongue-twisting paintings like “Valle Romita Polyptych” just ask your guide how to pronounce it first. Not sure how you’re going to get around? Book one of lastminute.com.au’s brilliant Milan car hire deals and go where the roads take you.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Milan holidays are all about fashion, and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the world's oldest malls, is your one-stop shop for everything from Prada to Zara. But the real highlight is spinning on the bull’s balls. Yep. Find the dancing bull mosaic on the floor, put your heel on its bollocks, and spin once for good fortune. We bet you can’t do it as casually as the Milanese.

The bull’s balls should bring you luck on your next mission: food! Much like the city’s statues and churches, there is much to be discovered with a little digging. For example, Venice isn’t the only Italian city with canals. In Milan’s Navigli neighbourhood, you’ll need to search a little to find the restaurants that line the canals—they’re disguised as barges. And forget counting calories. On a Milan holiday, you’ll be eating meat, butter, bread and, oh yeah, rich, creamy sauces. Your diet has no chance, but you’ll be dancing it off anyway.

Nightlife in Milan starts early, at least compared to the rest of Europe. Models need their beauty sleep, after all! That doesn’t mean you won’t be partying ‘til dawn though—hey, this is your Milan holiday package—do what you want with it! The aperitivo gets the party started at the bar with prosecco and snacks. Beginning around 11pm, laid-back nightlife can be found near Porta Romana, but if you don’t mind a few elderly Italian playboys, head to the glitzy clubs in Parco Sempione.

What’s Next?

If you forgot to book something fun for your annual leave, you may be feeling more like the “Lamentation of Christ” than the victorious “Return of Napoleon” (art jokes—you’ll understand after your trip). No worries. Mix and match airfares and hotels with lastminute.com.au’s Milan holiday packages and you’ll be soaring like a triumphant conqueror in his chariot—metaphorically, that is.
