Rydges in Wellington is very central to everything so it should have been a perfect spot but we found even on the top floor, we could hear the traffic. We had a nice view of the harbour but unfortunately filthy windows. We ended up cleaning them ourselves as the hotel staff weren't very helpful despite making commitments to have them cleaned. The rooms are a little challenging if you're not travelling alone. There's a frosted glass panel between the bed and the toilet which doesn't allow for much privacy at all. The shower was nice but there was only one hook for hanging a towel unless you wanted to use the rail over the toilet. Not a sanitary or desirable option. For a 5 star hotel, Rydges still has a way to go before I'd consider recommending it or staying there again.

The location was really good as it was close to the train station, and it was convenient to walk to the shopping district, restaurants and cafes. I liked the entrance as it was nice and clean, and there was also a seating area right there. However, the room was a bit of a disappointment. The room was very warm, even though the AC was on but it was quite old so there wasn't enough air coming through to cool the room down. And because it was a very old AC, it made a lot of noise throughout the day and night, so we didn't actually get a good sleep during our visit. The facilities inside the room were standard. The bed and pillows were too soft for us. The bathroom sink had cracks, and it was a bit dirty behind the bathroom door. Overall, it was alright for a few nights stay.

Loved our stay as always at Rydges, however something needs to be done about the televisions. Ours kept turning off part way through a movie and wouldn't even turn on when we arrived. Helpful staff to turn it on though.

Hotel was fine. Nothing special about it. Restaurant staff seemed not very happy to be there, this includes the hotel manager. I found strange that children were using the lane pool, sauna and spa. The chromecast was unavailable and when we asked someone to come fix it, they said they removed it as "people were stealing it". We stay in room 901, which is close to the housekeeping closet, it was quite noisy all morning. Not good value for money but nice beds.

Overall experience was great. Only issue was the evacuation procedure or lack of direction. Disabled patrons and elderly patrons left in stairwells during the evacuation and not clear signage or staff directing people. Also once outside on the street no staff again directing patrons to a meeting point.

Do not recommend for anyone travelling with family. Entry smells a cigarette bomb went off. Portlander restaurant manager Logan was for lack of a better word, racist! Hotel rooms weren’t serviced properly daily. We had toddlers and were asked to keep it down at 7pm by hotel staff when kids were playing inside the room. Sauna was rubbish, didn’t work properly. Lifts were broken, we got stuck in one for a few minutes. Superior king rooms are anything but superior. Reception staff was one of the only positives including the cleaners.

Not deluxe rooms but harbour view lovely.

Be wary of deluxe harbour view room. The view is lovely. The rooms are not deluxe. Not by a long way. We had one and my daughter another on floor 13. Both of use had same experience. Worn furniture and odd toilet. Our room had missing kickboards. A mini fridge that could barely open because it was sitting unevenly and also the door opened the opposite way to the cupboard it was housed in. Antique A/C. Our tv reception was intermittent and the remote missing. The bathroom has a floor to ceiling glass wall into the bedroom with the toilet right at the glass, and ( in room 1104 at least ) also a motion activated light in the bathroom that creates a silhouette of everything the person in there is doing. It is very poorly thought out - but made us laugh at least. The bar and staff are lovely and were open Good Friday when most places weee not.
