Holiday In Taipei

Life is too short to stick to the usual path, so when you can get away, go on holiday in Taipei!

Located on the north coast of Taiwan, Taipei is the region's capital and historic centre, as well as an ever-changing hub for some really weird stuff—good weird, of course. As you’re taking a gondola ride over a forest of Japanese Hairy Maple trees—we didn’t make that name up—it’s easy to forget you’re in the middle of a major metropolis. The quirky themed shops and restaurants will help, though (if you’ve never eaten curry from a toilet-shaped bowl, now’s your chance!). Get your hands on one of our top-notch Taipei packages and hurry to the airport!

Things to Do in Taipei

The better question is, what can’t you do on a Taipei holiday? Start in the Xinyi District—Taipei’s city centre—at the top of Taipei 101, a skyscraper that towers 509 metres over the city streets. Set your sights on Elephant Mountain and trade the lift for hiking boots and start climbing. If you aren’t that outdoorsy, ride over the mountains on the Maokong Gondola. Next, bring on the manmade wonders! Check out the National Palace Museum, where you can sift through centuries of Taiwan’s royal artefacts northwest of the city centre. If you’d rather look forward, then hop in one of our swanky Taipei car hire options and drive to the west side of town to LifeShow Street, an indoor row of fortune tellers lined up like street vendors. You’ll be right across the street from Hsing Tian Kong Temple, and if the future holds some big surprises, a little meditation may help…

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

After you’ve climbed to the top of Taipei 101, reward your efforts with a shopping spree and the mall at the tower’s base. Does travelling have you keeping late hours? Shop like the locals at Shilin Night Market, where vendors are still selling street food and fun fashions long past midnight. If you time it right, you shop from sunrise to sunrise! Make sure you save up by booking a stellar Taipei package deal first, though!

From bubble tea to ba wan—giant meat dumplings—and pineapple cake, Taiwan’s cuisine scene is on point. In Taipei, eat at some really weird restaurants, like an all toilet-themed café where even the loo sinks are toilets. Don’t fill up on curry from the porcelain throne, though, because Taipei is famous for its amazing pastries, some of which come in…special shapes. We’ll leave it to you to discover just what that means.

The club scene is alive and well in all the urban districts (i.e. not up in the mountains). You won’t be considered a prude, though, for going on a market crawl rather than bar-hopping, as Shilin Night Market is just one of several after-hours bazaars scattered all over the city.
