Excellence El Carmen was a huge disappointment for our honeymoon. The resort feels lifeless, with no music anywhere. We were told the administration removed all speakers across the resort. Guests rarely interact, and the only daytime activity I saw was a silent disco with headphones. At night there is a disco in the main building, but the nightly show only lasts one hour from 9:30 to 10:30, then nothing. The food was bland, poorly presented, and far from luxury quality. The only night it was good was at the Spanish restaurant, when we were told food was coming out slow because of a kitchen inspection. We realized the sudden improvement was due to the inspection, confirmed the next morning when we saw men tasting food at the breakfast buffet and entering the kitchen with staff. Cleanliness is poor. On our first day, a nasty white substance floated in the main pool and stayed there until I reported it the next day. Other areas were dirty and my room had worn, loose fixtures. They advertise six outdoor pools, but only one is open to everyone, another is for Club members, and the rest do not exist as described. Magna restaurant is Club-only, and several others were closed multiple days per week: Basmati closed Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat; Chez Isabelle closed Tue, Thu, Sun; Agave closed Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat. For a honeymoon or special trip, skip this place and choose Paradisus Palma Real for far better food, atmosphere, and overall quality.
