Liked: Staff & service, room comfort
We love the Pines Resort! The beds are super comfy and the property is gorgeous. The service in the dining room is excellent.
However, each year we see this beautiful place declining. It is so badly in need of a complete paint job, especially outside and in the sunroom.
We were a bit disappointed when we entered our room and the clothes of the former occupants was hanging on the bathroom door. As well there was no hot water either morning for showers.
The pool space is classic and a spot I love. To our surprise, locals are permitted to use the pool and with how few pool loungers there are , they are often occupied by locals not guests.
It’s sad to see that the Pines is slipping from a classy destination .

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
This was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Our first hint that it would go poorly was that the entrance was 8 steep steps with no handicap access. Then when we checked in, we found out that the elevator was out of service, and our room was on the third floor, which was actually more like six floors. I have mobility issues, so the trek up all those stairs was extremely difficult. Once we got to our room, further disappointment arose. There was no refrigerator, and the water faucet was really difficult to manuever. Very disappointment.
A wonderful historic hotel with lots to offer! The rooms are classically designed, and overall building brings tons of historic charm. The food in the restaurant is delicious and reasonably priced. The grounds are well taken care for, and the pool is the perfect spot to relax. This place has lots to offer for both families, couples or single travelers.
The grounds are lovely as were most staff. The staff need proper training and direction. The food was adequate, however our waitress Meghan was great and made us her"first" martini and it was great.
The elevators were not working which made it most uncomfortable particularly considering that there are stairs everywhere. I have major back issues plus spinal stenosis so I had to take one step at a time in excruciating pain. The hotel did Not inform us that the elevators were down and would be down until a part arrived ( they werent expecting it anytime soon) There was no compensation for visitors for this major inconvenience
It had been a number of years since our last visit and we were saddened to see how this beautiful property had disinegrated. The furniture was old and tired. Our room room was below street level and was the size of a large walkin closet,. The bathroom looked original with the toilet about a foot off the ground making it very difficult wih my back issues. We decided not to shower because the shower fixture looked grundgy.
There was a musician,Ron, in the lounge area which was a nice surprise and he was exceptional.
The property has new owners (5 years ago) and they are finally talking about much needed updates..
We will not go back and felt quite cheated by the experience. It is stilll charging premium prices for a mediocre hotel experience.
Do not book the twin bed room. They do not disclose that it is an overflow room attached to an actual suite (the room is meant for children).
The grounds and pool are nice, however the hotel is run down and dated.
We checked out after the first day (we had 4 days booked for approx. $1100) and the manager looked us in the eye and lied to us. She said that they sent the refund to Expedia (who we booked with). However, when we contacted Expedia they informed us that no refund had been given. Thankfully we had written confirmation that we checked out and Expedia contacted them and fought to get us our refund. Make sure you get written confirmation of everything at this hotel. The manager is dishonest and highly unprofessional.

Disliked: Staff & service
The staff was great except for the night manager who was rude and threatening. I had no hot water and he didn’t like me asking about a reduction in my room charge. Told me to go somewhere else.
The elevator didn’t work. Walked up 3 flights of stairs with luggage.
All is all the major of staff was very nice.
Wouldn’t go back.
We stayed in your cabins on the property and they were excellent. Nice and cozy, perfect cabin feel.
Pool was excellent, love the old pools with a deep end.
We loved the dining available - both breakfast and dinner! Loved the two rooms with two bathrooms in the cottage we stayed in. We wished that the parking spots out front the cottages were numbered so we didn’t have to park far from our cottage and transport our luggage! If we return to Digby, this will most certainly be our accommodation! Thank you for a memorable time.
