Holidays in Newstead

Quit getting jealous over your mates' travel pics and start taking your own in Newstead. A fabulous 'hood in the Queensland capital of Brisbane, you'll want to kick yourself for not going there sooner. Want to meet a local or two? No sweat. Around 2,200,000 people live in Brisbane. Newstead is 3 kilometres northeast of the centre of the city. If you're arriving from Brisbane Airport, grab a taxi and travel 10 kilometres to the southwest.

With a good number of the city's attractions nearby, Newstead is a dream for sightseers. From Queen Street Mall to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, there's lots to keep visitors like yourself occupied. After taking a look at those, you're going to want to continue on to Roma Street Parkland and Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium. For a fresh perspective on Brisbane, head to Bowen Hills and Teneriffe, close-by neighbourhoods that you'll love exploring.

The Treasury Casino, the Doomben Racecourse, the Eagle Farm Racecourse and the Castlemaine Perkins Brewery are excellent excuses to unwind after a long day's sightseeing.

Broaden your understanding of the area at the Gallery of Modern Art, the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, the Queensland Cultural Centre and the Southbank Parklands. These cultural attractions can't be missed!

Regional galleries such as the Queensland Art Gallery, the Institute of Modern Art and the QUT Art Museum show off the creative history of the area. Why not find out if there's an opening on and admire some of the wonderful works?

From hands-on activities to impressive objects and artefacts, museums have something to keep everyone interested. If you get caught off guard by a rainy day, why not make your way over to the Queensland Museum, the Queensland Museum and Sciencentre, the MacArthur Museum Brisbane and the Queensland Military Memorial Museum?

What better way to top off a day's sightseeing than with dinner and some live entertainment? Check the programme guides at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Twelfth Night Theatre, Tivoli and the Gardens Theatre.

Locating places to amuse the kids is often a top priority when going on holiday with the family. Don't miss the State Library of Queensland and the Brisbane Square Library.

If you're on the hunt for something adventurous to do with the kids, you should check out the Wheel of Brisbane, the RNA Showgrounds and Frew Park.

A delightful feature of this place is its nearby green spaces. Amid all the activity, you won't struggle to find somewhere to relax and read a book. New Farm Park, Centenary Place, Mowbray Park and King Edward Park are some good options.

There's nothing like treating yourself to a bit of shopping. Grab your wallet and head to Emporium, The Markets, Chinatown Mall and Davies Park.

Enjoy an educational history lesson at Story Bridge, Tower Mill, QUT Old Government House and the ANZAC Square War Memorial. Looking at pictures in a book just doesn't compare!

Places of worship such as St. Stephens Cathedral, St. John's Anglican Cathedral, St. Andrew's Uniting Church and Albert Street Uniting Church can give you a deeper understanding of the region. Immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere and take some time to think.

Slip into some orange and black and see soccer team the Brisbane Roar in action at Suncorp Stadium. As this stadium is also the home ground of the Brisbane Broncos and the Queensland Reds, it's a good idea to check the lineup of this popular sporting hub and time your trip with a game day.
