I never been to New York before so I don’t know if the price I paid is reasonable. But the room was extremely small and the staircase was very narrow. But the lady working the front desk was so helpful! She carried all my bags up to the room. And helped us get a cot in the room as well. Upon checking out, there was another lady working in the front desk, who was very helpful as well and held our bags for us until we left.
Staff onsite is very helpful. The problems are all with the absolutely inflexible reservation system. I’d booked one night and tried to add another. Nope, have to use Expedia. Now I’m in two different rooms and must transfer during our stay. Again staff made it easy to transfer but then was told I could stay in my original room which was a shared bathroom rather than the private bathroom. Nope. So staff had to move my bags and clean up room.
Really needs a way to adjust reservations.
First room was awkwardly shaped. Second room better but no side table for bed.
It was an unexpected stay due to a flight cancellation. I had to find something quickly and on a budget, as last minute hotel stays can be VERY expensive in New York. When I found Chelsea Inn it was in a nice neighborhood and the photos looked good. However! What wasn't in the description was the fact that it is a partial self serve hotel with a four floor walk up. I have had previously BAD experiences with self serve hotels and became VERY concerned almost to the point of taking the no refund/cancellation and booking another hotel. BUT I gave her a chance. Make sure you check you email because the instructions on how to get in after the clerks have gone will be there in addition to the instructions on registration. Got to the hotel and made the DAUNTING trek up three flights of stairs with luggage. The room was small, but very clean. I had a private bath - be sure you check the descriptions as there are rooms that have shared baths. I had a quiet street view. The A/C was okay - temps were in the 100's, so it was warm in the room. The bed was lumpy, so with the heat of the room there was not much sleep. It was a quiet street view and I felt safe coming back around 11pm alone. All in all not bad, but not transparent information at the time of booking. Don't know if that is the hotel's fault or hotels.com - as my last experience with a self service hotel was not as pleasant. I feel it is the duty of hotels.com to make sure customers know EVERYTHING about a hotel.

I thought it was very clean and had an old European hostel feel to it. Staff were helpful. It was clean. Pay attn when you book whether there is a shared bathroom. Wasn’t a big deal.
contactless, yet humanless response. Called thousands of times in front of the front door and never responded. Quite frustrating trying to communicate with a human being over the phone after 3pm. There is no elevator and my room was located on the the fifth floor. Awfully inconvenient for those carrying their own luggage.

Stay was wonderful, location was wonderful but most of all the staff especially Wilma were amazing!
I felt safe and secure and Wilma made sure we had everything we needed to make our experience perfect!
The Chelsea Inn is an ok stay. The location was good and accessible but the facilities are far from great. I was on the 5th floor with no elevator and the stairs are narrow. I was able to get help taking my luggage up and down which helped a lot. The room was small but ok. Unfortunately, I didn't realize I had to share a bathroom with another room which made the stay uncomfortable. The hotel also promises high level cleanliness and the room was not so clean. I found used tissue on the window seal and a bag with veggies in the fridge.
Great place.
Very convenient to subway lines.
Many bars and restaurants nearby.
Temp controls worked great.
Water pressure excellent in shower.
Small room and no elevator, but this did not bother me.

Property is conveniently located on west 17th between 5th and 6th avenues in Chelsea. No elevator so it may be an issue if you have trouble with stairs. Staff was friendly and helpful.
