Can’t even with adulting anymore? We hear ya. Tell your boss buh-bye, file those bills under 'Nah not today' and take a break from the world in Nara!

Of course, it's not just the buildings and sights that make a city unique — there's also the people. Here, there's 370,000 of them.

This destination lies 9 kilometres north of Tenri, and 370 kilometres west of Tokyo, the national capital.

The Todaiji Temple, a truly marvellous attraction, is what entices so many travellers to Nara. You're sure to be filled with regret if you miss out on experiencing it for yourself.

It isn't always easy to find fun activities that the entire family can enjoy. Luckily, sights such as the Shigisan Nodokamura Farm, the Kashihara Municipal Children's Museum of Science and the Naramachi Mechanical Toy Museum mean this won't be a concern in Nara.

Are your children curious about the world of wildlife? Take them on an outing to the Uda Animal Park, where inquisitive young minds will discover what an animal likes to eat, the types of sounds it makes and much, much more!

Nara has some gorgeous green spaces where you can go to see a whole range of plants. The Takidani Hanashobu Garden and the Manyo Botanical Garden are the names to keep in mind.

There's no need to venture deep into the forest to take in a bit of greenery. Nara Park and the Isui-en Garden are just two of the impressive urban oases you'll find amid this concrete jungle. Ukimido Park and Nijozan Furusato Park are also popular haunts for both travellers and locals.

Whether you want to go on a tour or buy a ticket to somewhere fabulous, Nara Information Center is the place to go. Its dedicated team of local experts will ensure you get the most out of your time in Nara.

Keep a lookout for different species of waterbirds at Sarusawa-ike. Or, if you're feeling like some action, why not ask about water activities at Tsuburoko Lake?

You probably know about its must-see shopping centres and museums, but don't forget that Nara has some remarkable nature reserves too. Yoshino-Kumano National Park and Kongo-Ikoma Quasi-National Park are two to keep in the front of your mind. Two more areas to check out are Asuka Historical Park and Mount Yoshino.

Seeking compelling museum exhibits? Head straight to the Kashihara Insectarium and Heijyokyo History Museum. Don't forget to ask the welcoming staff about any special events. Need more? Also pencil in visits to the Nara Prefecture Complex of Man'yo Culture and the Hakomotokan Konya Museum.

Deepen your understanding of the natural world with a visit to the Museum, Archaeological Institute of Kashihara. With so much information to digest and so many exotic objects and specimens to see, you might need to spend the whole day there!

Art buffs come from all corners of the world to experience Nara's celebrated collections, and the Nara National Museum and the Nara City Museum of Photography are usually at the top of their lists. You should also enquire into what exhibitions are being held at the Museum Yamato Bunkakan and the Shohaku Art Museum.

Love your history? Don't just read about the past in textbooks, discover it in real life at the Asuka Historical Museum. Would you like to discover even more? Then stick the Nara Prefectural Museum of Folklore and the National Asuka History Park Museum on your list too.

Dropping by important historic sights is a wonderful way to get a real sense of bygone times. Dig into Nara's past at Imanishi Family Residence and Former Kometanike Residence. If that's not enough to satisfy the history fanatic in you, extend your sightseeing to Kawaike Residence and Takagi Residence.

If you've ever had the challenge of redecorating a room, you'll be shocked by the incredible amount of effort that has gone into the opulent interior of Heijo Palace.

No matter your faith, the Kofuku-ji Shrine and the Yakushi-ji Temple can help you get in touch with your spiritual side. Kasuga Shrine and the Toshodai-ji Temple are some other popular houses of worship to add to your itinerary.

While it is tempting to put your energy into seeing the big-name attractions here, Nara also has some great lesser-known sights. The Kōfuku-ji National Treasure Hall is one example. Or, make your way over to the Daibutsu-den Hall.

Hotels in Nara

The sooner you lock in your Nara hotel the sooner you'll be able to start planning your adventures! You'll discover more than 34 accommodations listed on lastminute.com.au.

If you'd rather spend money on adventures than on accommodations, the Guesthouse Iki and the Guesthouse Narakomachi are two places you should take a look at. But if you'd rather be pampered while you're here, the Nara Hotel or the Hotel Nikko Nara may be more to your liking. Just sit back, relax and let the expert staff do their thing.

The Todaiji Temple is a must-see for visitors to Nara. If you're hoping to stay close to this renowned attraction, the Hotel New Wakasa and the Asukasou are both good options.
