Front desk clerk offered us a complimentary checkout at 12:00 p.m., he was trying to be nice because our flight was delayed and we were exhausted. The morning clerk was an ogre and simply said no, you must get out at 11:00. We missed the breakfast window for which we already paid thanks to this woman

This hotel has a lot to offer especially for the price and being in the heart of the Art Deco District and all the fun atmosphere of Ocean Drive. The beach is steps away, anything you need is in walking distance. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The room accommodation were nice too! Definitely would recommend!

We had a very pleasant stay at the penguin. The staff were very helpful and courteous and being on ocean drive delivered everything we were looking for location wise to the beach, espanola way and Lincoln road. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other travelers but they need to be more upfront and transparent on their pool and bar/food offerings. None of this was available directly at the hotel as was implied by all the gallery pictures and some of the text I read. We had to walk back away from the beach to a sister hotel to use their restaurant/bar and pool. I paid a lot of money for the flights and hotel package expecting the pool on top of the roof of the penguin as depicted in the hotel site photos. Food/bar options were less of a concern given you are ocean drive and by default will go to any of the other places before using the hotel services. As a side note while the pool at the other hotel was ok it was very warm and the pool and deck were older with nothing like the views of the ocean that are again depicted in what they show on their website.

Mixed Experience, but Carmen Saved the Day! My stay at the Penguin Hotel had its ups and downs. Upon arrival, I was unexpectedly downgraded from an ocean view room to a traditional room with no explanation. Thankfully, Carmen at the front desk went above and beyond—she was incredibly helpful and managed to move me back into the correct room the next day. Huge thanks to her for the amazing service! The ocean view room was absolutely spectacular—well worth it for the view and the experience. I highly recommend booking that option. On the other hand, I would not recommend the traditional room; the air conditioner was extremely noisy and made it hard to sleep. The location is unbeatable—right across from the beach and close to so many great restaurants, especially Italian and Cuban spots. I would definitely return, but I highly suggest contacting the hotel in advance to confirm your room type, as there seems to be some disorganization with bookings. The only major downside was the breakfast, which is served at their sister property, The President Hotel. It was disappointing—warm, artificial juices and very few low-quality options. They definitely need to improve the breakfast experience and update the menu. Overall, I’d return for the location and views—but only if I can be sure I’m getting the room I booked.
