Hotels In Kiama

Kiama is a charming seaside town with beautiful uncrowded beaches, dramatic rocky headlands, beautiful heritage architecture and a backdrop of gentle green hills. So whether you want to chill beachside and just relax or have a blast exploring the region, check out our range of Kiama accommodation and start planning your trip now.

History

The Kiama region is believed to have been an important spot for Indigenous Australians for over 17,000 years due to it’s rich natural resources. For the same reason, the region was settled by Europeans in the 1830’s and the rich farmlands led to Australia’s first dairy. The dairy industry, along with several quarries, meant Kiama began to boom and bloom.

Sea and Do

You can’t go seaside without actually seeing the beach, so whether you prefer to hit the waves or just lie on the sand, you’ll be spoilt for choice in Kiama. The most popular surf beach in town is the imaginatively named Surf Beach. If you’re after a swimming spot where you don’t have to worry about waves, head to Kendalls Beach or Easts Beach. Both beaches are protected by two headlands. So they have low calm waves to chill out in.

One of Kiama’s most famous attractions is the Kiama Blowhole, which the region’s name is derived from. The Indigenous word Kiarama is believed to mean "where the sea makes a noise", and there is no better way to describe the blowhole. A natural rock formation, the waves are compressed into an underwater cave and explode high into the air. How impressive the blowhole is depends on the wind and waves, but 2 meters or 20 meters, it’s still an impressive sight! The Kiama Blowhole is located at Blowhole Point (also imaginably named) as is the Kiama Lighthouse, because who doesn’t love a lighthouse?

Shopping and Dining

There are stacks of places to grab a meal or a drink in Kiama. Relax at one the cafes, pubs and restaurants in town or grab some takeaway have a picnic by the seaside! Or on the 4th Saturday of the month you can pick up some delicious gourmet treats and fresh local produce at the Kiama Produce Markets.
