It's situated 1,050 kilometres to the north of Canberra, the national capital of Australia.

Bald Knob sits just 30 kilometres southeast. An excursion out here can be easily justified by the Australia Zoo alone.

Think about taking some sandwiches so you can treat yourself to a leisurely bite by the water at Kings Beach or Shelly Beach.

Looking for a natural escape? Pull out your car keys and visit Noosa National Park, 40 kilometres away from Gheerulla. You can also fill your lungs with fresh air at Glasshouse Mountains National Park, 45 kilometres away.

If you're considering venturing outwards, go 12 kilometres southeast to Mapleton. It's here you'll find Lake Baroon and Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk. We also suggest stopping by Cooloolabin, 12 kilometres to the east, for the Ginger Factory and Wappa Falls Astronomical Observatory.

Coolum Beach, 30 kilometres to the east, may be worthy of a day trip. Use it as a base when visiting the Palmer Coolum Resort Golf Course, Aqua Fun Park and the Mt Coolum Golf Club. If you need more convincing, other nearby attractions include Sunshine Coast Laser Tag and Coolum Christian Family Church.
