I have stayed here many times and will continue to in the future a quiet beautiful neighborhood that makes you feel like a local. The hostel is always clean and staff is great as well as the whole ambiance and other visitors.

Unfortunately the fire alarm went off at 330 am - it turned out that a pipe burst and there was no hot water for the next day. Also, the temps dropped significantly at night (in May) to the low 40s for the whole stay and there was no heat.. They turned it off for the season. I know it's a hostel but at a minimum there needs to be heat/ac when weather demands it and hot water. There were also parking isdues. They assign spots... But other cars were in my assigned spot with nothing to be done bc they weren't actually guests but 'friends' of guests. I've had much better experiences previously but this one was just bad.

The front entrance was getting fixed and so a sign gave brief instructions as to how to get in. It was not clear and you needed to walk about 4 homes down turn the corner and go another 4 homes to the alley way and walk an equal distance to see the back entrance. Not a great first impression. The place was very hospitable and clean. We had a 3:41 fire alarm which was a pipe break and lasted about 20 in. Then in the morning at 7:30 they were out of all the mugginess, breads bagels etc, so like not much to have but tea. By 9:30 their grocery supplies had arrived and we had plenty. Then a gal had her water bottle top spray off somehow; I only felt the spray on me but quite a mess overall. The staff were patient and pleasant and helpful. I really liked the place but just a lot of mis-haps with the only one I could really hold the folks responsible was that poor signage and instructions for entry at the front under-construction entrance.

We love the Getaway Hostel and have stayed there many times. It’s so nice to meet people from other countries and have the opportunity to chat with them over coffee (very good by the way) at breakfast. We had a problem with lack of heat but staff took care of it right away. We had our 6 year old granddaughter with us and we felt very safe in the hostel and in the neighborhood. She loved it! Great stay.

I’ve stayed here a couple times. Great location and reasonable prices. Clean, free breakfast, and nice common areas. The property is in a wealthy, walkable area in a historic building. It can be hard to park.
