★☆☆☆☆ A Masterclass in Disorganisation at The River Lee
Where to even begin with my stay at The River Lee Hotel? What should have been a pleasant getaway quickly devolved into a cascade of failures, from the moment I arrived to the moment I left—a perfect storm of corporate indifference and operational chaos.
The check-in process set the tone for the entire debacle. I wasn't given a room number, merely told I was "on the third floor." My key card, when I checked it, was blank. An ominous and bewildering start. I then inquired about the VIP perks that Hotels.com had explicitly promised. The receptionist seemed completely unaware. After I had to follow up—a pattern was emerging—she vaguely mentioned a possible €20 voucher for the restaurant. Then, in a moment of pure farce, what I presume was the manager intervened to inform her, I was, in fact, not entitled to it.
The room itself was clean, I'll grant them that. But "basic" would be a generous description. No mini-bar, and the toilet flush was a pathetic, cheap thing that required several attempts to complete its one job.
