Say goodbye to adulting for a bit. It's time to fast forward to that seriously fun part of your life where you check out Guatemala City! This lively city is full of surprises, and you'll find many of them hidden in neighbhourhoods like Zona 15. The capital of Guatemala is home to some 1,000,000 people. Don't be shy to get out and introduce yourself to a few of them! After touching down and picking up your bags at La Aurora International Airport, your ride will head 4 kilometres east to take you to Zona 15. From the city centre, it's a commute of 3 kilometres to the northeast.
A great deal of this city's top sights are dotted near Zona 15, and Catedral Metropolitana and the Teatro Nacional are two of the most outstanding. After taking a look at those, you'll want to continue on to Kaminaljuyu and El Obelisco. For another perspective on the city, venture to Zona 10 and Zona Viva, close-by neighbourhoods that you'll love exploring.
While you might be able to see a variety of art on the internet these days, there's nothing better than experiencing the real thing. Take in the region's creative side by visiting the National Museum of Modern Art and the Popol Vuh Museum.
Ask about any special events that might be on before making your way over to have a look at the exhibits at the Ixchel Museum, the Natural History Museum, Museum of Invisible Musicians and the Museo de Musicos Invisibles.
Sometimes the best way to get to know the locals is by strolling around the shops. Don't forget to stop by Oakland Mall, Central Market, Paseo Cayala and Plaza Fontabella Shopping Center.
The nearby heritage attractions will give you a glimpse into the area's interesting past. The Torre del Reformador, Constitution Square, National Palace and the Universidad del San Carlos de Guatemala are certainly not to be missed.
Whether you want to learn some more about the region's traditions and customs or simply relax in the peaceful surrounds, head to the Aldawa Mosque, La Merced Church, Church of St. Francis and Union Church of Guatemala.
Kit yourself out in red and blue and join the crowds of fanatic soccer supporters who unconditionally love the CSD Municipal. All of the fun and excitement goes down at Estadio Nacional Mateo Flores, only a short commute from Zona 15.
If you'd rather spend money on adventures than on accommodations, the Hotel Pan American and the Hotel Casa Serena are two places you should check out. Two more you may want to consider are the Real InterContinental Guatemala and The Westin Camino Real, Guatemala. These upmarket hotels are for those who'd like to live a life of pure bliss while they're here.
